South Carolina coach Shane Beamer joined the SiriusXM College Sports channel this week and talked about some of the changes going on in College Football with transfers and NIL.

On top of those major changes, Beamer named something else he would like to see in College Football: scrimmages during the spring or fall against other teams. Per SDS:
quote:

“I would love to see in either spring practice or the month of August where we could actually scrimmage another college football team,” he said. “We’re the only sport at any level — high school, college, pro, any sport — that doesn’t get any kind of preseason scrimmage, an exhibition game against another team before you go play for real.”

Definitely agree with that.

I like the idea, but with the nature of the polls, is it really going to be considered a scrimmage game? New rankings after the scrimmages for sure. Maybe some kind of practice thing like the NFL does would be better. Or just say screw it and don't worry about the polls.

we used to always have exhibition games before the season. then they realized they can make more money with a real opponent

Hard to say it doesn't count when it could affect your standings in the polls. What if Georgia was #5 and they lost to an unranked team in the preseason. They would start out the year in a hole.

I wouldn't be against this and while we're at it, do away with the BS preseason rankings. Start ranking teams after they have some games to back it up!

I was thinking the same. With polls being the way they are there cannot be any games that don't count in the eyes of the voters.

This would happen and he would complain about an injury that took away depth.

Used to kinda be this way until TV money started pushing bigger cross conference games to start the season. If he really wants this he could just tell his AD to schedule one of their gimmie games as the first one of the season. Then a next level gimmie game, and then a tougher one as the 3rd game right before conf play starts. Then their super easy break homecoming game in NOV. Problem solved.
