On Monday, SEC Officiating announced that John McDaid will take over for Steve Shaw as the conference's Coordinator of Football officials...
quote:

“I am excited to serve in a leadership position that will afford me the opportunity to transition from leading a crew of eight officials on the field to developing and supporting an entire staff of officials in the Southeastern Conference and Sun Belt Conference,” McDaid said. “I am committed to building on the solid foundation established by Steve Shaw and others before him to ensure the best officials are serving both conferences at the highest level.”

Little Known Fact: McDaid is a graduate of the Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind. He should do well in this role.

At least this one's not an SEC grad. He's from Harvard, so maybe some of the officiating will start being equally terrible for all schools.

He's been a referee in the SEC. He's familiar with how things work and how things are supposed to work. Just as bad as hiring someone who is an SEC grad.

It's long past time for conference affiliated officiating crews to go. We should have NCAA crews that have no conference affiliation that rotate around the country to different leagues.

college refs aren't full-time refs. They have jobs. Regional refs are important due to travel requirements. You're not going to have a ref living in Oregon doing Florida games - logistically and cost-wise, it won't work.

McDaid was the referee who called a bogus targeting penalty on Devin White in 2018 to ensure White would be suspended for the Alabama game. And now we see what his reward is.
