During the SEC Coaches Teleconference on Wednesday, new Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze was asked about reports from the past that linked him to Nick Saban and possibly joining Alabama's staff. Per On3.
quote:

“I wouldn’t say (the SEC blocked it),” Freeze said during Wednesday’s SEC Coaches Teleconference. “How real it was, that’s probably a question for Coach Saban. But he was so good to me in my two years out. Truthfully, it was when I got to Liberty that there were a couple of occasions that Coach Saban and I had great conversations about that. They just seemed to never work out for one reason or another.

“The most real was after I got to Liberty and his coordinator left. That was very, very hard on me there. But I had already gotten there and hired a few people. That would have been very difficult for me to leave. I think Coach understood that.”

Poor, mistreated Alabama.

All those dogging the Freeze hire at AU are also aware that the GOAT knows a good football coach when he sees one and they know Freeze is going to build a solid program that will be one to reckon with as long as he’s on the plains.

I think the real objection is the SEC wouldn’t support Alabama’s hiring of Hugh Freeze but when it was time for him to get a head job somewhere in the SEC all the sudden they played the “we don’t review hiring decisions” card.

Freeze won't say it but the NCAA didn't think it was a good idea for him to go to Bama. For whatever reason, they had no problem at all with Auburn. Whatever. it is what it is.
