Does Paul Finebaum Think Lane Kiffin Could Replace Nick Saban?
© Butch Dill-USA TODAY Sports
During a radio appearance, ESPN's Paul Finebaum was asked about the possibility of Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin replacing Nick Saban, even though the Alabama coach is signed until 2030.
quote:

“Well, I think it would be dangerous for Lane Kiffin to gamble on when Nick Saban is going to retire,” Finebaum said via On3 Sports. "And also, unless someone could guarantee him that job – I don’t think anyone could guarantee him that. I think Lane Kiffin would be an attractive candidate, but I don’t think Lane Kiffin is really a patient person and I have a hard time believing that he would sit around waiting for Nick Saban to determine what’s next, unless Nick Saban said, ‘Lane, this is my last year.’ And Greg, what do you think the odds are of Nick Saban confiding anything in Lane Kiffin?”

I did not see where the question of "COULD" he replace Nick Saban was addressed.

Haha, Ole Miss folks love hearing about Lane's potential move to Bama or Auburn...haha. (hmmm, is Lane paying Finebaum to get himself a pay raise?)

Dabo will coach Bama when Nick quits.

I’ve always wondered who Nick would choose to be his protégé and carry on his legacy, if that is even possible

He will recommend Houston Nutt.

According to Finebaum, God couldn't replace Nick Saban, because to him Saban is god

The way LSu fans still drool over him, talk incessantly about Alabama which didn't start until Saban went there, the BS stories about him on his knees begging for his old job back and chant FU Saban every time he comes back, I think the same could be said. If Nick had gone to State your hate game would be in Starkville.

Seems like a bad career move to directly follow up Saban.

I think you could win one championship without even trying, just on what he has built. But then you'd be on the hot seat if you ever lost 2 games.

The coach right after Saban or the 3rd coach removed will have the same expectations. No coach will ever be allowed to regularly be 10-2.

So Paul has no clue. Thanks for the update.
