Now that Jim McElwain is out at Florida, many college coaches have had their names mentioned as possible candidates for the vacancy, including Mississippi State's Dan Mullen.

Mullen was asked about the opening at Florida during his weekly press conference on Monday but (as expected) denied any interest in the job. Per CollegeFootballTalk:
quote:

“I’m really happy here,” Mullen said. “I think when you look at what we have in the program and the administration, I haven’t really thought much about it. I’ve been here long enough. As the year goes on it gets into that silly season and who is going where.

“Our focus remains on UMass and winning that football game. I’m really happy with what we’re building here.”

He never denied it in anything he said there. Don't let the incredibly bad headline fool you into think he denied interest.

He was the OC/QB coach for Urban Meyer at Florida when Tebow was there. Florida's last connection to their recent National Championships. Can't believe he wouldn't entertain a move from Starkvegas to Gainsville. Bigger stage and more money with deeper pockets in Florida than Starkville. And, right in the middle of one of the hottest areas of recruiting in the country. In short, if offered, HE GONE!

"I am NOT going to be the Alabama coach."

19 when Coach Saban said those words he actually meant it. At that time the Miami Dolphins were still in playoff contention. That was also before Mal Mooore arrived in Miami to stalk Coach Saban. Mal Moore lived in a Miami hotel room for weeks pitching the Bama job to Saban.

He still became the Alabama coach after explicitly saying he would not be the Alabama coach. Lots of people say things they mean at the time and do something different. You don't get credit for meaning it at the time you say it.

Coach talk and typical response. Tommy Tuberville said the same thing while at Ole Miss about the Auburn Job and when the deal was done-he disappeared from Oxford quicker than a rack of ribs at Weight Watcher's convention. He would have more job security in Starkvegas but....

Mississippi State has been very loyal to Daniel Mullen. I would hope that Mullen would return that loyalty but loyalty is a very rare quality in this country.

He would have left several years ago. Now? No way. That man is king of starkvegas.

He didn't deny interest. He feigned disinterest.
