The rivalry between the Texas and Texas A&M began in the 1890s but was last played in 2011 when the Aggies' moved from the Big 12 to the SEC. Newly hired Texas head coach Charlie Strong has voiced his opinion recently about resuming the rivalry. Here is what he had to say via CBSSports.com,
quote:

"It's all about the two ADs getting together and getting that figured out," Strong said. "When you look at it, it's been such a huge rivalry game. ... I think at some point it will get worked out.

"When there's been so much tradition there, you'd like to see it continue on. That's my feeling on it. I'd love to play it."

"You'd like to play it in a neutral site somewhere, where every year it's in that spot, whether it's Houston or Dallas," Strong said.
Former Texas AD DeLoss Dodds seemed hopeful that the game could be played again in 2018.

texas doesn't want that game at a neutral spot. All that does is continue to make their home schedule suck.

We're not playing Texas at a neutral site. End of story. If he thinks it will happen that way, he and his AD are even bigger dumbasses than we thought.
