After recently discussing the idea of claiming more National Championships in Football, Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs told AL.com last Friday that the school will only claim two national titles for 1957 and 2010. Per AL.com:
quote:

"We've earned what we've earned and people can count it different ways, but we've earned what we've earned," Jacobs said. "Those players on those teams, like me in 1983, it doesn't matter if you hang a banner or not. I know what we did.
The NCAA record book lists Auburn, among others as a national champion in 1913, 1957, 1983, 1993 and 2010.

I may be wrong, but I don't believe the NCAA recognizes any claim for Auburn as national champions in '13, '83 and '93. I'm curious where it mentions Auburn for those years, because I can't find it.

Never thought I would put the words classy and Auburn in the same sentence. Still can't say the same for Bama; think they just claimed another championship.

Auburn should have gotten the shot in 2004.... and I would have paid money to see them eviscerated by Reggie Bush and Co.

Pavoloco83, Not really, it's true Auburn won't (moreorless can't) claim extra titles if they wanted to now, it just so happens that they DON'T want to anyways. So everyone wins.

This proves beyond a reasonable doubt Barners are superior to Gumps.

Alabama really had a two fold genius plan when they claimed the pre Bryant titles.

A. It put them right back in the hunt with Notre Dame (who did the same thing earlier)

B. Ensured that Auburn could never claim the same for shame of copying Bama.
