Your opinion of the O line

The Georgia fans who chimed in on the best offensive lines thread on the Rant didn't seem all that excited, but personally I can't remember the last time I felt this good about an O line heading into the season. Maybe 2020.
Coach Rauscher is the real deal. We were mashing people before Bobo went down in the Tech game. Glover is a natural. Bobo might end up being first team All-American. Gaston is one of the 3 or 4 purttiest looking tackles we've ever had and would probably be a first round pick next April if he was eligible. The freshman from Carrollton looks like a future All-American.
The only thing that could frick up the plan imo is if Greene keeps getting hurt. But for some reason he gets very little credit around here even though he started 14 games at left tackle for us as a freshman. It'd also suck if Bobo got hurt again, but Cortez Smith was idenitified as our center of the future when he was in the 10th grade, and he'll be ready to go this season.

Yeah who is behind Greene?
I think you're right though...we have the experienced center that all coaches covet and elite talent with experience at the other positions. Hard to count on Greene playing all year given his history but it should still be one of the better units we've had.

If it improves from last year, it could be pretty special. Last years unit was decent imo.

It seems like the second half of the Tennessee game and also the last 2 and a half games after went Bobo went out skews a lot of fans' perceptions from last year. Overall I thought we were damn good at O line. Kirby promised that he would fix it and he did.

Yeah, this made me raise an eyebrow as well. Not sure what's not to like about this OL. When you have 2 guys that come in and start as true frosh and excel like Glover and Gaston did in the SEC, they are nothing short of special. And I'm reading all over the forums that Helton is the real deal. Some said that after losing down to 260 because of his illness, he has put 30-40 lbs back on and it is PURE muscle, not a tablespoon of fat on him.
We've got depth and experience and I think PR brings some young fire to that group. I'm going to agree with that article on the Rant, this will be the best OL in the country.

there's a pretty massive difference in:
-I think we can have a stout OL this year
and
-UGA is literally the best OL in America
I was one of those people that chimed in as such. I do like the guys we have, and I LOVE having rauscher on board. I've never really been big on searels at any point in his tenure but have ever, EVER so slowly given him a bit of credit lately. But still, having PR in the building too is gigantic. Ulatimtley though, we have still have a lot of questions and I damn sure wouldn't call us the best OL in america or even the SEC sitting here in July. And that's not an insult or being a debbie downer, it's just being realistic. Greene is solid but is he solid AT LT where he'll be playing this year? Great at G, great at RT, who tf knows at LT? Glover was solid but he's not an unscouted freshman anymore, can he continue to make the jump? Can Bobo pick up where he left off after a season ending injury? Who the hell knows what to expect from a true freshman? Let's not forgot that guys like Jah jackson and michael uini were inserted into starting roles last year and were worse than dogshit, some of the worst OL play I've ever seen at UGA.
So yes there's A LOT to be really excited about but I'm not going to call us the best unit in CFB yet either, on July 20th. Let's play a few conference games first.

O Line is a position group I’m always cautious about. We hear great things but don’t know what we’ll get until the whistle sounds.
Overall I feel good about this team. Loads of experience in a chaotic time in CFB.

But it's not like the competition is real stiff. It's like being the tallest midget. Offensive line play in college football is atrocious – too much roster turnover and then all of these lineman coming into college having played in spread offenses since the 6th grade and never really learning how to block.

I miss the days before NIL when we would stack up 4 deep at all the line positions. I guess those days are over for good.

My fear is we are caught in the "Biggest Oline in all of football crap".... I want road graders guys, that can pull, and tramp.... Truck and Trailer type hogz.

I keep "hearing" many talking heads saying the UGA OL will be elite in 2026. I hope they're right. I saw enough inconsistency over the last 2-3 seasons to last a lifetime. I saw a fair amount of wiff's by the OL last season to make me scratch my head.
The injury bug has been very present too, and that's a problem too. Hard to do much about that.
If the OL can get it together this season, it could really be huge. I hope they do.

Sounds like we should have a really good offensive line this year. Injuries seem to be the biggest risk.

One thing that I do really like about this year is that even though we have some position changes, we don't have a ton of completely new guys that are getting their first taste of ball. Really it's only helton that will be a total newb.
Last year due to early season injuries we tried out calhoun, uini, and jackson (I think that was all, may have been more) and they all pretty much sucked total arse. I feel comfortable with a starting lineup of Greene/Glover/Bobo/Helton/Gaston although the depth worries me, as does Greene a little at LT. That's pretty solid.
