He is a good dude, he just hates that bad behavior by black kids is always thug and that white kids are not necessarily held to the same standards with the use of the word Thug.
IMy response was also a standard that currently isn’t equal.
We didn’t get this far, but I’m sure he would tell me that 60 years ago, if a black football player hit a white woman, they would have hung him from the goal posts before they took them down.
Society is currently in an overrcorrect mode on stuff like this…which is wrong too.

Cry me a river. If he really thinks being called a thug is as bad as having angry mobs of BLM and Antifa nutballs threaten your very existence while simultaneously losing your job and becoming unemployable, then his IQ is below room temperature.
Someone called Burton a thug. So fricking what. He'll be fine. If he was white and that girl was black, he'd be off the team already and the FBI would be looking to press federal hate crime charges. Based on your original post, it sounds like your friend knows this and thinks it's amusing.

The majority of all violent crime in this country is committed from a demographic that makes up only about 4% of the population. That would be young black males.
That doesn’t mean every young black male is a violent thug. But it sure as shite means way too many of them are.
Maybe we should prioritize figuring out why this is such a lopsided obscene fact before worrying about if another f’ing word hurt someone’s pwecious wittle feewings.

Was checking the new stories. It doesn't look good for him. It was doesn't matter if he's black; she's white, etc. This is a man striking a woman on video. The NFL and sports in general has taken a hard stance against violence against women. The pressure will mount against Saban and Alabama and while they have to investigate they probably should have taken a harder stance to avoid the issue blowing up. It wouldn't surprise me if he gets dismissed from the team, and if the female gets an attorney she could file charges or try to file a lawsuit. Seems overboard but that's the society we live in. Last thing you want to do is have video evidence against you in situation like this.

Ehh, let's not over-analyze what some black dude we've never met may or may not be thinking.

He is actually very intelligent. It was just that he was so focused on the thug part of the story, that he didn’t realize his comparison took his argument into the bigger issue of equity vs equality.

My prediction is he’ll have to sit out first half of Miss state game and that’s it.
Remember what Jimbo said this summer about the supposed holier than thou “god” of college football? He said ask around about how he does things and you may learn a few things you don’t want to know.
Unless Burton is charged, Saban ain’t going to do shite about this.

How shocking.
This part isn't directed at you, just more of a general thought:
Equity is where the outputs are equal regardless of the inputs. That is an incredibly fricked up way for society to operate and it punishes hard work and good decision making.
Equality is where everyone has the same opportunity and the end result is based on merit and what is earned. That is a good way for society to operate and rewards hard work and good decision making.
Equity and equality are not interchangeable terms, no matter how closely they sound. They could not be more opposite.
As for Burton, if Alabama had better WR depth, I think he'd be kinda screwed. Since Alabama's WRs are not great, I think Saban will push pretty hard to keep him around.
Posted on 10/20/22 at 5:01 pm to VADawg
This should really be an event that stains Saban’s legacy if he condones it by words or lack of action.

The word "thug" didn't start being connected to black kids until the black kids of the 90's started using the term in their pop culture to refer to themselves.

We also had a philosophical conversation about how black folks have words they can call themselves, but other people can’t. Thug was one of those words.

Is this like the time you were at a black-tie charity gala, and after apperetifs, while awaiting the veal course, the professional cellist and the venture capatalist seated at your table began a spirited convesration about UGA’s qb controversy ?
Posted on 10/21/22 at 12:34 pm to Peter Buck
I see "thug" as a cultural term in our societal context. While it may be more closely associated with black men, I've certainly used the term for white men that acted in similar ways to those we associate with "thugs".
What's interesting is that we have a term, "white trash", that's entirely associated with white people, yet none of the usual suspects who use the race card seem to have a problem with that. At least, as far as I've seen.

Hot take considering it's a penalty to body slam another player during a game. Pretty sure doing it to a fan gets you assault charges.
Just wondering because it seems similar ... did that NFL player that leveled the protester that ran on the field a couple of weeks ago have charges brought against him?

Critical Race Theory is a racist, anti-God ideology that is based on a communistic and a postmodern (anti-truth) narrative. It perpetuates anti-white racism in the name of equity and encourages revenge on those who did nothing wrong by those who were not wronged.
In short, it's evil.

I finally finished Stranger Things 4 the other night.
It’s Netflix, so you know going in what you’re in for and you’ll have to just roll your eyes and let some things roll off your back. And, of course, there’s a lesbian teen character now who has a crush on a bi-sexual redhead girl, there’s the interracial kid couple, the closeted homosexual 14 year old who is in love with his childhood friend and creeps on him even though he’s straight. And on and on. It’s all so forced and unnecessary and distracting, but whatever. I can ignore it for the most part because the show is otherwise pretty entertaining.
But then…after all these pains to include every obscure piece of the rainbow, we are treated to the fat-cheeked, frown-faced little black kid sister character and her hatred of “hicks”. It’s actually presented as comedy. Boy, this sassy 12 year old really hates her some “hicks”! Which is somehow supposed to be hilarious.
And when they go to the store to load up on weapons, gear, and ammo for the apocalyptic showdown with 001, the little black child looks around at all of the white “hicks” who have done nothing to her, and she is so disgusted and repulsed by them that she tells everyone that they have to leave. Now! She can’t take the presence of these people!
I mean, it’s just normal people doing the same thing as her and her rainbow gang, but it’s never explained why they are inherently so loathsome. Only thing we’re left with to ffigure out why she has such a seething hatred for “hicks” is that the other people in the store are all white people that looked like hard working God-fearing freedom loving non commies.
I don’t know. It’s just a goofy tv show, but it just shows you that all of this diversity inclusion stuff isn’t about giving everyone a seat at the table and everyone living in harmony and being kind to one another. These people are filled with hatred. And they don’t even attempt to try to keep it a secret exactly who that hatred is for

Time seems to be on Burton's side. I haven't seen any big news story on this so it seems to have died down. Maybe Alabama can just handle it internally with a few game suspension. Still any punishment is an admission that he is guilty and that while no matter how small the shove or slap is; it's still striking a female. They may still say they are investigating it a week later to let the media attention die down a bit more.
