Why should ND get in over us if we lose the SECCG?

We beat them H2H. Not our fault we have to play in a Championship game and they don't. Why should we get punished but they get rewarded? I think the committee takes us over them

When they ranked Oklahoma ahead of Ohio State yesterday, they showed that head to head is something that matters to them.

Does that meant that when it comes down to it they'll put us in over them? Not sure.

I think our best bet to get in w/ 1 loss is for Clemson to lose one more and for the Big 12 to keep beating each other.

I think Clemson loses to NC State this weekend.

If you're asking in earnest, it will be because we played a tight game with them and they likely will finish the season with a superior resume... *but*... and I think many are already echoing this... with the initial rankings, they seem to be indicating that H2H will be a key component *if* the resumes are similar enough. (ie. Oklahoma > Ohio State > Penn State).

Going to have to prove it throughout the rest of the games though... rankings today are exactly that... current state.

With ND being 3rd this early ,it shows me that the committee rewards Strength of schedule and quality wins immensely. The scary thing is notre dame still has 2 more resume boosters in undefeated Miami and surging Stanford. The other 2 games are 5 win wake forest and a former top 25 navy team .if notre dame wins out, i dont see any way they dont make it in.their schedule is pretty ridiculous

I agree in principle that we should be ranked above ND in that scenario but loses late in the season tend to look worse but mainly the committee will do everything possible to avoid have 2 representatives from the same conference. It shouldn't matter but it does in terms of national optics.

I guess they shouldn’t, but they could have 5 top 25 wins and we could have just 1 come that time....against them. Also, depends on how the game goes and how ND is playing. Also matters where the rankings are at that time. Say it’s UGA, ND, Clemson, OSU, then Bama. Who do you remove from that if everyone wins out (besides a Bama loss to say LSU)....

Because at that point they will have also won at Miami and at Stanford.

As much as we would gnash our teeth, their total body of work would be more impressive than ours, and would probably outweigh a week 2 one point victory.

Anyone who thinks that the committee would drop Notre Dame to make room for us at 3 or 4 is kidding themselves.

It would be frustrating but ND would deserve a spot over us if they win out and we don't. There are still plenty of opportunities for them and others to lose, though.

The only team we should be worried about is USCe.

It would suck but no one would have the resume that notre dame has. This is a scary proposition. Maybe Clemson ends
Up being the odd man out ? If we just keep winning this won't be an issue

Yup. Keep in mind that while ND has maintained football independence, they've joined the ACC in all other sports and are playing 5 ACC games annually now. As a result, they have a "loose" connection to the conference. It would be quite easy to leave out an ACC representative in favor of ND if the opportunity presents itself.

Yep, win and we are in. We have to force Hurts to turn the ball over. He is very good at ball security.

If we don't have TO's then we should be OK even if there no TO's in the game. What we MUST do is contain Hurts so that he doesn't get first downs when their receivers are covered. Hurts is well coached. He won't throw into double-coverage but he will take off and run if there is an opening.

This game is going to be decided in the trenches. If we minimize their running game, cover their receivers and contain Hurts, we should be OK even if Fromm doesn't have a great day passing.

We have done great holding mobile QB's but Hurts is the best runner we will face. He is a RB at the QB position and he is a solid passer.

If we go 12-1, we get in...starting #1 is their way of ensuring that we do get in for that scenario.

They shouldn't and I don't think the committee will make that move because it would be sending the message that head-head isn't as important as quality wins.

Quality wins and strength of schedule are important factors when considering 2 teams with the same record who haven't played one another. Why? Because you truly don't know which team is better. In our case, we HAVE played ND and have beaten them at their house with our true freshman QB making his first start so there is no doubt who the better team is. None.

I perfectly understand the committee not wanting 2 teams from the same conference and wanting to put the media darling in, but I don't see how they have a choice when they have the head-head result. It's not impossible but it is highly unlikely IMO.

Fortunately, his deep ball is hit and miss.
