I think Smart wanted Vanilla and he got Vanilla.

You are correct. If smart wanted vanilla then he sure got it.

The O-Line has to play better. No run game for Beck or he’s toast.

This right here.

It’s like Bobo was determined to run inside zone against a stacked box all game long, and when he didn’t want to do that it was screens/ short ins.
Bobo changed schemes. You just didn’t understand what he was doing. Jet sweeps can be big plays and make the backside have to respect them, but they can also lose yards and put you behind the sticks. It appears our strategy was to run safe plays, get positive yards and play field position game, because we felt we could win that way. If Smart wanted more risky type plays, he would have gotten them. I think the next two weeks they will be working with the Oline on improving their blocking and how they block when the D line is slanting and stunting. Lots of plays were one missed block from a much bigger gain.

Poor focus
Poor tackling
Completely uninventive play calling. It’s like Bobo has forgotten how inventive Monken was
That’s said it may be just the thing that was needed to get them to pull their head out of their collective butt.

Monken is currently 0-2 this season for reference

Monkey is not 0-2… the Ravens are

There are times Monken struggled. I heard folks saying he was trash when we almost got upended by Mizzou, and then only beat UK 16-6. If you'll recall only Kenny McIntosh scored a TD in that game. Only FG from Poldnesky was the rest of the points. I heard all sorts of people roasting Monken. And uh, that was against UK, AT UK. Sound familiar?

Your point is well taken and as I said "some plays" but my point was we should have had more diverse outside play calling to take some pressure off the OL who were obviously struggling in run blocking and pass protection up the middle.
Beck is a tall QB and he does a good job of surveying the field but without pass protection there's little time to survey the field.
At least when a QB rolls out, he can assess that half of the field well without a wall of linemen caving in on him.
But having said all that, the obvious answer is better better blocking but I'm concerned that we have had a drop off in talent in those positions. Hopefully coaching and improved technique will make a difference.
We better hope so because Bama and Texas are loaded with talent on defense.

Kind of a trend, when we have trouble running the ball, seems we have problems. That takes away the play action pass; then when the other team knows we are going to pass we have issues. Then I saw what happened vs Clemson in the first half. Beck dropped back and couldn't find anyone open; dumps to his check down receiver for little to no gain. Was KY's db's covering us that well? They did put some pressure on Beck. Thank go the D was lights out. At one point I'm thinking we could go down by 2 scores. Just rare cases we have come back from down 2 scores but I know it has been done. Finally in the 4th quarter their run D was cracking and that opened up that big reception to Lovett. Love Kirby ball but the whole thing is predicated by us playing with the lead and at most down by one score. Bobo needs to dig deep into the play and see what we can do in the first half. Maybe run the ball outside more; maybe a few more jet sweeps. Seems we need to start passing to open up the run rather than run to open up the pass. It would seem we miss Ladd and Bowers, but Lovett is playing well.
Good post, need to go in and get other people's thoughts. Maybe the answer is Kentucky just played that good on defense.

The question remains is will our offense be competitive enough against the likes of Bama and Texas.
The 2012 SECCG begs to differ.

I think 2012 was largely the will of Todd Gurley at his peak....

No more Bowers and McConkey means no more offensive confidence. Now Beck is feeling the pressure and he can't come close to hitting a deep ball. The Stanford tight end can't catch or block. Trevor Etienne might be our third best RB. Too many players are hurt to threaten Alabama. We could end the year with four SEC losses.

We’ve seen too much success to panic over this. To me, this was the classic example of one team coasting and feeling like they don’t have to put out and the other looking at the game as their existential moment to prove themselves. Everyone - including our players unfortunately - thought they could just show up and KY would fold. KY in the other hand, got embarrassed the week before and this was their chance to fix it. Being at night, in their house, just made it worse for us.
We’ve all see this 100 times. Really good teams have a nail biter when you least expect it. At the end of the night, it’s 11 guys playing 11 guys and they were more motivated than we were. We were lucky to get out with a W.
Having that game prior to the bye week and dropping to 2nd was just what we needed. We may not win but the team that shows up in AL will not be the same team we saw in KY.

Yep.
I said in another thread that this to me is manufactured controversy just to get clicks.

Bama needed a miracle to beat a shitty but motivated Auburn team last year. They didn’t have a prayer against us the next week.
