Eyes of the World- More Grateful Dead

Right outside this lazy summer home You ain't got time to call your soul a critic no Right outside the lazy gate of winter's summer home Wondering where the nut-thatch winters Wings a mile long just carried the bird away Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world The heart has it's beaches, it's homeland and thoughts of it's own Wake now, discover that you are the song that the morning brings But the heart has it's seasons, it's evenings and songs of it's own There comes a redeemer, and he slowly too fades away And there follows his wagon behind him that's loaded with clay And the seeds that were silent all burst into bloom, and decay And night comes so quiet, it's close on the heels of the day Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world The heart has it's beaches, it's homeland and thoughts of it's own Wake now, discover that you are the song that the morning brings But the heart has it's seasons, it's evenings and songs of it's own Sometimes we live no particular way but our own And sometimes we visit your country and live in your home Sometimes we ride on your horses, sometimes we walk alone Sometimes the songs that we hear are just songs of our own Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world The heart has it's beaches, it's homeland and thoughts of it's own Wake now, discover that you are the song that the morning brings But the heart has it's seasons, it's evenings and songs of it's own

Interesting how you quote the lyrics to the song instead of just posting a link. Thank you for that... Because it's a great example of how most people's favorite Grateful Dead lyrics weren't even written by anyone in the Grateful Dead.

These words were written by an outside contractor they had to pay on the side in order to come up with lyrics because they couldn't. Like they had to do with almost all their songs that aren't just verbatim cover songs.

Ha ha. ONce in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it unlike a dipshit right.

Pretty sure it's possible to laugh your arse off at idiocy or to shake your head and get depressed thinking about how far the depths of psycho depravity go (with things such as strango-jerking enthusiasts, for example)...........without infringing on any degenerate's right to be a sad degenerate.

Let degenerates be degenerates in their own homes. But, don't tell me I can't have an opinion or be horrified by it.

Sheesh. Next thing you know you'll be forcing me to bake a birthday cake for a strango-jerker if I don't want to. frick that. Over my dead body. Gross.

If you like the lyrics, and you like the song, then what difference does it make?

I posted a weird Al song. He wrote zero of the music, and made up parody lyrics over it, I love it.

Personally, I really don't give a shite about lyrics. For me, personally, it's all about the melody and music. They could be singing total gobbeldygook, I wouldn't care. It's why I like Phish, for example. Or Beck, or Ween.

As Bruce's character said in Slingblade, "The dots are where I say they are. Melody and tune, that's your trade. You're a tunesmith."

I'm fine with being a simple tunesmith.

I'd hardly consider Robert Hunter an outside contributor to the dead

I can appreciate Phish, The Dead, And WSP in doses...because I am eclectic and listen to a ton of different stuff..

For example I am currently listening to Ryan Adams Heartbreaker...this morning on the way to work I was listening to the most recent Third Day album...Revival(they are hanging it up in 2018 btw...no more tours...25 years)..anyway...that album was recorded at Fame in Muscle shoals...its actually really good..

Yesterday as I was grilling bratwurst for dinner, I was listening to Cody Jinks...I have also been listening to Live at Fillmore East - ABB...and some old John Prine....and of course....and I know Jefferson will love this...I am still regularly spinning Jason Isbell stuff...

speaking of Jason Isbell and ABB...anybody heard this cover he does live?

LINK

EDIT: in that video they do start rough...just stick with it!

Depends.

If you like a MilliVanili song, should it matter that they're lip syncing? If you like a Vanilla Ice song, should it matter that he stole the entire hook from David Bowie?

Well, if we're talking about simply enjoying the sound, then No. Of course it doesn't matter.

But when it comes to assessing their musical talent and examining who is mostly responsible for the success of the product, well then it matters quite a gigantic fricking bit now doesn't it?

It's nothing personal, these are just Facts:
-Without bowie, there is no vanilla ice.
-WIthout lip sync tape-recorders, there is no millivanillie
-and Without outside lyrics contractors, there would be no multi-generational zombie cult that takes brain drugs to better enjoy the Grateful Deads. (the process of which is the equivalent of strango-jerking btw as mentioned earlier)

Phish has to pay an outside contractor for their most of their gooberdygook nusery rhyme lyrics too. Just like the Grateful Deads.

Anybody starting to notice a trend?

For their old stuff, yes. And he's in the liner notes, and his picture is included with all the band pictures in the liner notes, just like a member of the band. He's not some secret dude from which Phish takes the credit for the talent. I use the term talent loosely here, as we both agree that Phish lyrics are ... gobbledygook.

How about we just enjoy some tunes instead of complaining about what other people choose to enjoy?

Yeeeeeoooow!! I love it!

Three pages ago you were mocking Christians and Christian music, but are now calling for non-judgement. After your own personal gods have been scrutinized!

Classic.

I'm not saying it's fraud. I'm saying that it's hiring an outside contractor for lyrics. Because you can't come up with good ones on your own.

Some artists don't have that issue. Some do.

And the trend I'm noticing now is that the ones that can't....all seem to have bizarro-world hedonistic degenerate cult followings. I'm just pointing at what I see. And trying to figure it out.

Some people can write great lyrics but cant sing for shite and can’t play instruments for shite.

Others can sing, or play really well, but can’t write lyrics.

What is wrong with a partnership?

It’s common in all genres.

Country music is built on a foundation of this concept.

I never talked shite about the Christian music itself, just you. Everyone else is in here posting about music they enjoy, you are just here posting about why everyone is wrong for having whatever personal taste in music they have. Sweet life homie.

Yeah you did. You tried to smear a chowder posse cartoon band on me that you thought was universally accepted as "uncool" amongst the cool...to show that I myself am not cool. All based on musicial coolness!!!! Ha ha heeeee! I love it!

Sorry., Its just hilarious how people that condescend to other genres can't take it when supposed cool-duder-approved music is scrutinized for authenticity. Thanks for illustrating my years-long music snob theory for everyone in real time though. I mean that. THank you.

Nothing.

Let's list the ones that can't write their own lyrics though....and see if we find more trends.

Here. I'll start...

Artists that sing songs where the MAJORITY of the lyrics are written by someone else:
-cover bands
-the grateful deads
-phish
-American idol contestants

The majority of Phish lyrics are written by phish. You must remove them from the list, or alter your “majority” criterium.
