Not saying it WON'T happen, because there's plenty of reasons why it could. But

a) smart seems to have his name come up for just about every coaching gig that comes available
b) he hasn't proven one damn thing about his coachign abilities without nick saban. SC could do worse than smart but they could maybe do better as well.

Fuente would be bad news for us, that guy is good. Oregeron, meh. Let him go there. Elliot..do we know anything about his head coaching abilities? hudspeth was a hot name for a while but has kinda stalled at ull and is now under some investigation. dantonio

I don't know enough about the rest of the list to comment.

I want Fuente, personally. I'd be excited about Smart, but the whole Muschamp fiasco worries me.

You might be on to something there....I'm on the fence with Smart too. People throw his name around to replace Richt and it doesn't excite me like it did say 2011-2012ish.

he will not replace richt, unless our first like 10 candidates turn us down. Although no way Bobo would turn us down and he would be ahead of smart, so no...smart will not be our head coach.

I'd like to see him cut his teeth at South Carolina and prove himself and then come home to take over the reigns at some point.

For all I know he could just be the next flavor of the month that pops up every year or so in offseason searches, but fuente woudl bother me.

Was TCU's OC/QB coach for 3 years then went to memphis, an absolute coaching shithole/graveyard and went 4-8, 3-9, 10-3 (won their conference and bowl game) and is currently 5-0 and frickin ranked. At memphis!

Guy is obviously able to do something right.

No shite, I've heard Dantonio mentioned as a serious candidate for the job. Rather see comrade Kirby there. Dantonio is a great coack, Kirby is Sabans lapdog...

If something were to happen and richt retired or got sick or something and wasn't our coach, aside from your "not gonna happen but we at least have to do our diligence and make a phone call anyway" type guys I'd have tom herman and fuente up there.

I've always said that UGA should go after someone who is an established HC winner at a big school, but there simply aren't that many of those types out there that would switch jobs IMO. Your harbaugh/patterson/etcs are staying put, and obviously saban and others like him aren't going to go lateral.

herman and fuente are really intriguing though and I'd welcome either.

I must be a meth addict... Smart is the real deal. Scares me facing him at helm of Cocks.

based on....what exactly? Great DC for sure. No HC experience and his entire coaching career minus 1 season has been spent wiht the same HC, who just happens to be one of the best in America this decade.

Muschamp had a pretty darn similar resume heading into UF and he went 7-6, 11-2, 4-8, and 7-5, losing to Richt 3/4 times. Adn that's at Florida, where the recruiting, resources, and prestige is greater than at SC.

Dantonio played at SC is the reason you're hearing his name
