Alabama is #1 in pretty much every metric so I left them out. After another remarkable season we have shot up the list among the other 5 of the "Big 6" as shown below.

For pretty much the entire history of the SEC UT was the #2 program, and often times there wasn't even a discussion. After going now nearly 20 years of being "down" that is no longer the case IMO. And for a while LSU had done enough to really throw their name in the ring as being the overtaker. Between us, LSU, and UT each program led the others in some category or another. Each one could make a reasonable claim for the spot. But after hte last 2 years, I don't think there are any arguments left. I fully believe that historically UGA is now clearly and without equal the 2nd best SEC program of all time. We hold the #2 spot in SEC titles, all time wins, bowl games, and bowl wins. The only areas we lack in are overall weeks ranked (a measly 4 weeks behind LSU) and weeks ranked at #1. Although in the last 2 seasons we have made an exponential jump in that category and will likely overtake LSU and UF both mideay through next year.

If we start the season #1, which we likely will, with our schedule we'll keep it til SECC game....that's a lot of weeks!

With 2 titles, we may have earned a little more grace.
But the AP is fickle. They've removed the #1 tag from us a few times in the past without losing.
It isn't a guarantee that even an undefeated season holds that spot all year.

You should post this on tRant and watch the downvotes roll in.

I remember one season (2008?) we started #1, won our opener by 30 or so points, and dropped to either #2 or #3.

Yup, way too many reporters who let their blatant bias enter into their voting choices.
I remember the Marietta Daily Journal had a vote in 2021, and the editor of the sports section would always write, "Now, I'm from Ohio but I don't let any mid-western bias enter into my choices. I judge based on results" and then he spent the whole year over ranking Ohio State, ND, and the like while he kept doubting UGA until the very end.

Dropped to #2 and then then following week dropped to #3.
It was due to the lack of respect UGA had as a top contending program.

That’s great intel. I wonder what the accolade stats look like for the modern playoff era and cfp rankings
Auburn, Tennessee, and Florida have never even played a playoff game obviously. But Florida has never even been ranked in top 4 cfp rankings at any point during season, I don’t believe. I think Auburn made the cfp top 4 for 1 week in the first cfp season, but thats it. Just like Tennessee only lasted 1 week in top 4 this year.
Meanwhile, Dawgs held the #1 spot for all but one single week in every cfp ranking the last two years. 3 weeks in top 4 in 2017. Two in 2019. And 1 in 2018. I think that’s all, but could be more
SEC championship appearances, not just wins, would be cool to see too. Not sure if we best Florida in that one

Alabama - 14
Florida - 13
Georgia - 10
LSU - 7
Auburn - 6
UT -5
Florida and Alabama utterly dominated this game in the 90s. From 1992 when the game was created to 2000, UF had 7 appearances and bama had 5. No other team had more than 2 appearances during that same span.

If you don't mind, can I post this on tRant?

Go for it. I was going to eventually but I know it'll just be a trollfest. If you wanna deal with the backlash go ahead lol

You got me curious about Bama. I know they have won(claimed) 18 National championships and 29 SEC championships. Interesting they only won 1 NC from 81 to 2009 and only 2 SEC championships. They were mortal during that time frame. It will be interesting how long we can stay on top.

I looked more into their titles out of curisotiy a while abck as well. One thing that stodd out to me was that even though they have double the amount of SEC titles as the next team, there were plenty of decades where they only won one or two. HOwever they also have decades (notably the 70s and 10s)_where they have been just utterly dominant.
UGA has been a model of consistency which is why we're now in sole possession of 2nd.
30s: 0 titles
40s: 3
50s: 1
60s: 2
70s: 1
80s: 3
90s: 0
00s: 2
10s: 1
20s: 1
Other than the first decade of league's existence we only have 1 decade with an 0fer. 4 decades with at least 2 SEC titles.
