I don't find such wins compelling or satisfying,
The good news for you is that we play in the SEC. We play UF/AU/gt every season. We've played bama/texas/ole miss multiple times over the last 3 years. Over the next several years we will complete home and homes with Oklahoma/aTm/LSU/Tennessee. If all you care about is being entertained you're going to get that in spades.
The #1 desire I have every season is for UGA to win the national title. For that to happen we have to make the playoffs, and for that to happen we have to win as many games as possible. There is zero scenairo where we have run through a murderer's row gauntlet against bama/lsu/ou/etc plus tech plusa potential SECCG but we're left out of the playoffs because we beat a scrub in the season opener instead of beating FSU. There is a very real scenario of getting left out of the playoffs for having an additional loss though. Just ask Texas from last season; if they played a scrub in the opener instead of playing (and losing to) OSU they are in the playoffs. I bet the fans that were mega-entertained during the game probably wish they had a do-over come December when they were sitting at home instead of making playoff plans.
From a logical/rational/common sense perspective it makes zero sense whatsoever to make things even more difficult for yourself than it already is.

Don't disagree but these games pay substantially more than a home game.... $$$$$$

As a high school senior, did you beat sixth graders in sports and thump your chest about it?

what a crappy analogy. If UGA was playing OCHS you might have a comparable situation.
If a 7A HS team was in the toughest league in america and played ranked competition week in and week out one powerhouse after another, in addition to one of those ESPN season openers against some other national powerhouse, then I wouldn't think too much about them playing a team in like 4A and breezing to an easy win against them.

Also just FYI I've never advocated for playing FCS teams. I have no problem with playing crappy 1A teams though.

The analogy is isn’t the competition; it’s the walking over lesser competition.
The AAAAAA champ shouldn’t play a A school.

Zero to do with that. It gives our players the chance to play when they may never get the chance in the season other than practice - playing time is so much more meaningful in many ways.
Also, it does help the budgets of schools that otherwise don't have it. And it gives those school's players the chance to play in environments they never would be in.
Is a win over those schools satisfying? Not nearly as much as those over a rival. But ultimately, that's not what it is about.

Us being much better than some other 1A teams is just the way of the world. If we played 10 such games I'd look at it differently, but playing a 10 game wringer and 2 gimmes is not an issue.
Some people would love nothing more than playing the #1 - #12 ranked teams for our whole schedule even if we went 6-6 which is crazy to me.

Funding these teams athletic program for the year while playing deep in the bench, gives us a look at what our future looks like. I don't mind the filler games.
And excellent games to take young children to. And cheap.

Nashville is just too expensive to stay there.
You're not kidding. I went in 2022 & most of the average, ho-hum hotels downtown were charging $500-700 per night. I can go stay at the Fontainebleau on Miami Beach (the hotel in Goldfinger) for $400.

Yes, but the FCS games are the issue.

Personally I couldn't hate this anymore if I tried. I was glad that we "canceled" originally, because in the days of a 9 game SEC schedule, plus our auto-P4 game against tech, plus an SECCG (for now anyways before it goes extinct), plus multiple games against top 10 teams in a playoff....it makes ZERO logical sense to make your schedule even harder on yourself by choice.
By this train of thought, why don’t we just get out of the SEC altogether?

because playing in the SEC is awesome and we have a century's worth of history in it.
You aren't fully getting my point. My point isn't "we should make every single game we play as easy as possible and play the bottom 12 teams in FBS so that we'd be guaranteed to go 12-0". My point is, because we ARE in the SEC, and we DO have 9 conference games that are already hard as hell (plus tech), in the two games that we actually have a choice in who we play it makes no sense to make those games more difficult than they have to be.

If I was made to decide I would RATHER play an FBS team simply for the optics if nothing else. But I mean we're going to handily beat that type of opponent and empty the bench in the 2nd half regardless.
Charlotte was one of the worst FBS teams in the country last year and we played them in November. Does it really matter if we play a charlotte instead of a Tennessee State?
Let's just look at 2028 specifically since that's when this game will be played. We already know the entirety fo the schedule except for the actual dates. We play:
FSU (Neutral)
Florida (Neutral)
Auburn
Bama
Arkansas
Ole Miss
GT
FAMU
@Missouri
@Oklahoma
@SC
@Vandy
We have one, ONE, game where we can get a breather, work on execution, play some backups, and actually allow the average John Q. Fan and his family that have bene priced out of hte gmaeday experience to go make some memories. We play 3 out of the other 5 "big 6" to go along with ole miss at home who has our number, road game at missouri where we are jekyll or hyde, and at oklahoma. Along with now FSU in a neutral venue.
Playing FSU instead of some other scrub like Marshall isn't going to help our season one single bit whatsoever. I can assure you it will hurt it though we we end up 9-3 instead of 10-2.

I knew exactly what you meant. But I wanted to see how far you would stoop to avoid playing somebody just because it’s a little harder. But there’s also something to be said in recruiting for someone wanting to play for a culture that will play anybody, anywhere. frick it. let’s play FSU in the parking lot and kick their arse.

In my opinion, yes.
Also, instead of sending that money to NC and TN, those games should be rotated among Georgia Southern, Georgia State, and Kennesaw State.
