This team is so much worse without Yante
I'm obviously kidding. JJ has been better since Yante went down, but we're definitely worse without the 2nd best player in the SEC.

I'd be careful there. I loooove Maten, but he is not the 2nd best player. I would give you top 5, but certainly isn't ahead of Monk or Thornwell. There's a few others that I would throw him in contention with, but those 2 are far better then Maten.

Yante is averaging 19 and 7 on 52% shooting (47% from 3). Thornwell is averaging 21 and 7 on 45% shooting (40% from 3). You can argue he's better, but I don't know how you can argue he's far better.
He might be a far better prospect for the NBA, but not a far better collegiate player.

DOT34, keep in mind that Thornwell is a gaurd and avg 3 assists per game as well. USC has 4 guys avg 10 points or more, UGA has 2.
I'm not saying Maten isn't a great player, but just can't compare him to Monk or Thornwell. Yes, Maten makes half of his 1.3 3 pointers per game, but he isn't handling the ball and taking longer jumpers like Thornwell.
I would group Maten with Fox and Saiz

This is off topic but I believe we beat Arkansas on Saturday. I've said it all year that I don't think arkansas is as good as people like to claim.
Offensively we need to continue to play like we are, rebound like we did last night, but defend a little better.
LSU is one of the worst teams in the conference and we are better than Auburn by 8-12 points but when you look at the stats of those games their offenses played really well. Our biggest weakness was defense and rebounding (vs LSU).

I think winning these close games, even against the lower SEC teams, has been good for the team.

Learning how to win close games is absolutely a skill. How do you become the team that doesn't make the late mistake, makes the clutch shot, etc...
I'd largely agree. The downside is the early performance in the Auburn game and the collapse that almost cost us the LSU game... those things you can't afford in the Arkansas matchup, or in the SEC Tourney if they're trying to make the case for a bid. I'd liken Auburn's 3 point shooting last night a bit to the way UF plays... they are going to get hot from outside at times. LSU played above their typical level and showed a lot of UK/USC type effort on the boards and taking advantage of weak defensive play from the Dawgs. If those matchups are against more talented teams, it's a much taller task to eek out the win, but letting the team figure out how small the margin of error is definitely important.
Gotta try and find a way to come out of the gates solid, if not "hot", in order to put themselves in a better spot and not have to dig out of a hole. And if/when they get up, not let off the gas on reasonably simple things like rebounding and making the opponent earn each shot on the defensive side. It's nothing world shattering... just solid fundamental basketball. With Maten out, the margin of error is lower. JJ can do JJ things, but if the rest of the team doesn't crash the boards and defend well, at some point it won't be enough.

Offensive consistency and defensive energy plus rebounding energy. If we have those two things for 40 minutes we win. Simple enough.

They will have to be a lot better the rest of the way, but at least that monkey is off their back so to speak...

Offensively we are playing pretty dang good in regard to statistics. We haven't shot the ball this well in multiple years and we are turning it over much less the last handful of games.
We have to rebound better and defend better and just keep this offensive momentum going.

Lunardi has us as next four out now. Looks like reality is setting in. Win an unwinnable game Saturday or win the SECT.
SECT might be our best chance and that's because theirs a chance Maten might be back

How is Saturday unwinnable? I will hang up and listen!

If we lose Sat, getting to the SEC final should be enough.
Low percentage chance but anyway

No worries man. I think I'm gonna end up with a ticket on Tuesday as well so hopefully I'll run into you there. Glad you found a ticket and are able to visit the hallowed ground for the 1st time. If you like golf at all it really is as cool as people say it is.

Jealous af...I haven't gotten to go in years! I was born and raised in "Disgusta", played college and professional golf in the state, getting married around there later this year, and Augusta National is heaven on earth man.
I will break down and buy a ticket one of these days when I get the itch to spend $300-$2k to go back home.
Okay /hijack

I actually think if we lose close on Sat, then win 2 (assuming Arky in Quarters) we would be watching closely on Sunday....depends on what a few teams do Sat and in their tournament...including the Dores and Tech

If we lose Saturday, there is no way we play Arkansas in the next round. We are 6th right now in a 3 way tie, and Texas A&M is right behind us.
If we lose Saturday, we arent going to be 6th no matter what. That means we will be either 7th or 8th, and that would mean we play either Florida or Kentucky.

Good point. I forgot Alabama was ahead of us. I guess if we win and they lose Saturday, we would then meet Arky again in the quarters. My apologies. Either way, I don't think we stand a chance tomorrow and think it will take 2 wins in the SECT to get into the field, depending on a few of the other bubble teams. That would put us top 50 RPI and finally a gooood win.
