I think it is very safe to say that Harrick burned us on going after anyone tainted. The only way we get a proven winner from a major program is if he is tainted... at least at this point in time.
On the off chance we get a wild hair and attempt to hire a big name... a proven winner at a high level, not sure they would come here for even money. We would have to buy them... that's never been our MO in any big $ sport.

Agreed... at least at any significant level. Forbes had a 1 year show cause back in like 2012... I think that would probably fly, but that's probably the extent of it for the immediate term. And yeah, I've said elsewhere that UGA's not getting a "proven HC" to the basketball team without paying through the nose, and as you said, that's just not our MO (and really shouldn't be).

Soooooo, we are really not on a single channel tonight? Stream only? WTF? Tech gets to host because Indiana is stupid and they get espn 2, yet we aren't even on a local station and SECN can't pick it up?

Glad fricking Akron is going to be on, but we aren't.
Apparently they just moved the South Dakota vs Iowa game back to 9pm due to weather......maybe they will replace it at 7 on espn 2 with UGA.....
Scratch that, they moved Syracuse into that slot. FML

Pretty pissed our first two opponents would be Belmont and tech. I guess it's somewhat cool but I like postseason tournaments for the chance to play new teams and we are playing the same team we played in the first round last year and a team we play every year.
frick that
frick that

Yeah... Indiana would have been a fun draw... Just don't see why you put UGA and Tech that close. I mean another home game against Tech isn't terrible, but could certainly get more excited about a team we don't play every year.

And for anyone defending Fox... this is also a pretty good indication that you've hitched your wagon to the wrong guy. ESPN is a business... they make data driven decisions and the UGA brand right now is not just "not NCAA tournament quality", it's not NIT televisable quality... And that's not because the alternative games are amazing... you've got South Dakota/Iowa (or whatever replaces it) and Houston/Akron... meanwhile the SEC Network is airing Missouri v. Chicago State baseball.
Note to PB: this isn't to say that just replacing Fox is enough... I think you and I are on the same page regarding some of the other changes that likely need to be made, but I do believe it's a chicken/egg scenario and the only real driver is going to be excitement and momentum... neither of which are present right now under Fox.

No hitched wagon, but I think TV liked JJ. They also probably think, correctly, no one cares about UGA vs Belmont in the NIT with JJ. If they made the tourney, he most certainly would have been hyped along with Maten. This team was literally a few bounces away from being in. They didn't make it though and now everyone gets to be cunty...

I know, you've clarified your position recently.
TV likes the JJ that played after Maten went down. He is a little heavy on the variance factor so when he's not hot, it's pretty abysmal to watch. UGA lacks true scoring threats, so if JJ isn't on to at least a moderate degree, the team falters in most cases. Against good competition we often struggle to find ways to feed Maten in any meaningful capacity (last game against UK was a prime example - though to be fair he wasn't at 100%).
As far as "no one cares" about this matchup, no one really cares about any of these matchups. You're telling me that Akron/Houston or Iowa/South Dakota is more compelling? I disagree that we're a few bounces from being in... the "close" games against UF, USC, and UK are the only games where we can say it would have been particularly meaningful and even still, this isn't the first time we've seen these results. It's not really a coinflip situation when the results end up the same way each time. Fox gets out-coached and our players get outplayed against better competition in crunch time (aka tournament like scenarios). A good chunk of tournament games are going to come down to a handful of possessions, and UGA under Fox just doesn't win those kind of games often (particularly against good teams - see 1-12 or so against teams in the tournament this year). I *want* Fox to be the guy, because it's a hell of a lot easier to keep a coach than figure out who the next guy in is... he just isn't.
It's not being "county" pointing out that he is simply not a tournament caliber coach but is paid like one.

This website autocorrects the word c un t.
UGA v Belmont not being on TV for the NIT is not an indictment of the Fox regime...you know that...

Akron is probably a better team than Georgia this season

I'm aware... probably should have just left off the air quotes.. was not a criticism of your typing.. I'll leave that shite to DD22. I just think it's funny that the site substitutes count.

Maybe indictment on the regime is a bit strong, but I do think it's indicative of where he has the program right now.

No Yante Maten (setback with knee) and no Juwan Parker (Achilles) for tonight's game.
