Let’s go back to Sabans first three years...I bet there’s some stinkers.

I doubt he ever single-handedly sabatoged his team with a championship on the line. If somebody can find me that, then I'll agree with you there.

In his first three years. I know there was the whole Kick-6 debacle, but that wasn't nearly as big a fault of the coaching as it was just pure dumb luck against them.

Coaches routinely blame their players. What do you think "We just didn't execute" means? "I had a brilliant plan, but those idiots fricked it up."

Maybe he will win again this year and retire. Otherwise, we aren't winning anything if we have to keep going through them.

Yep. From what I’ve seen, I don’t think Kirby is ever beating Nick.

I am starting to think he may be a vampire. Or at least a Sith Lord. Both of which have mind control powers to make Kirby fake that punt.

I'm leaning vampire since his heritage is Eastern European if I'm not mistaken.

For the life of me, having just lived through this 11 months ago, I just can’t understand how we don’t have a competent gameplan for being 2 scores ahead of them in the second half. It’s like do we not expect to have such a lead? Clearly they know a Saban coached team will make adjustments.

I’ll give you a hint: Kirby doesn’t change his coaching style or philosophy. He is still making the same clock management gaffs he made in 2016. He foolishly took his foot off the gas tonight just like we did in January. Hell, the LSU game went off the rails after he got cute with a fake field goal, and tonight he sealed defeat with a kiss on an even worse fake punt.

Hubris.

Can you elaborate on how you think we went conservative?

Whenever the full game replay comes up on YouTube, take note of how our offense changes at 4:08 in the second quarter.

You will note that we start churning clock, running more, and not exploiting tempo and matchups like we did early.

We tried to go back in spurts later on, but by the time we tried to flip that switch in the fourth, we were out of rhythm.

On first watch, many will say Fromm was missing receivers, but the reality is our guys run option routes, there are hot and very hot reads. When we are clicking (like first quarter), there isn’t much to do to stop us.

Against a team like bama, dialing back slightly, like we began doing st 4:08 2Q, is a huge risk, because you may not be able to get it humming again.

Gotcha. Not sure I can stomach a replay anytime soon, but I'll take a look.

I don't think we took our foot completely off the gas, but I do think we tried to slow the game down. I guess you could call that the same thing but we had established that we could get what we want after the 2nd and 3rd TD drives and the defense was playing well.

All in all, playing Bama is always like playing with fire though and we didn't put it out when we had the chance.

What is concerning is what this could do to the players pysches. I fear it will turn into the old Florida deal where they were waiting for the inevitable collapse every year in Jax. These guys have had 2 games with in 11 months against the heralded king of college football....where they won almost every metric.....had a 2 score lead......and still found a way to lose in catastrophic fashion. I am not sure Smart can give them another profanity pep talk again next year and have them believing. They would have a hard time buying in on that since he went all Ray Lewis and then ended up being the one to frick it all up.

If we had won the national title back in January, this would hurt far less. In fact, I would probably have not been so heartbroken. The fact that we lost this game, to the same team, the exact same way, despite outplaying them, is what makes it really hurt. We didn't close in either game. We should have won both. Think about it. Two SEC titles and a national title.

The missed field goal was probably our ultimate undoing.

We have become Alabama's bitch despite having comparable talent just like LSU under Miles. Now LSU is a shell of what they used to be. Eventually that will get old so don't count on Saban retiring to make it easier for us any time soon.
