St. Mary hospital athens
I befriended many of the nuns that lived in the covenant behind the hospital. A great bunch of elderly nuns. I planted many herbs outside of the cafeteria. Helped them whenever I could.

Marie Antoinette ran that hospital. There was no carpet, those squeaky shoes could be heard coming down the hallways and you better be doing your job. She ran a tight ship.

I don't know who runs St. Mary these days. The nuns are gone. Administrators run the show.

My sister-in-law BSN worked in the medical-surgical area. She has only worked one day in two weeks. They wont lay her off, they wont let her use PTO of which she has 400+hours.

Do you think all those administrators/support staff have taken a similar cut? Doubtful.

Sister Marie Antoinette would have done the right thing.

St. Mary either needs to lay her off so she can get unemployment or give her more hours for taking care of all the Chinese flu patients.

They are so overwhelmed that they need every hand they can get, but still can't get some hours for your SIL.

Seems odd.

It’s because COVID patients require specialized treatment and if that’s not your thing everything else is getting postponed or patients aren’t showing up. Think about it...are you going to have your knee replaced or stress test performed when the last place you want to be hanging out is the hospital? Are you going to PT or taking your kids to the doctor for their well visit?

Healthcare is suffering as much as any other business in this environment.

Covid was unheard of just a few months ago. How did our other medical personnel get this specialized training?

Meaning critical care in the ICU for respiratory distress and pneumonia.

You guys do realize that ICU is a very small portion of a hospitals overall number of beds right?

I had a high revenue surgery cancelled this week. It was technically elective, but it would have been nice to have gotten over with ... imagine that is happening all over. Not sure how many shoulder SX dudes are in the ICU trenches right now.

It’s happening everywhere. Nobody is going to do anything elective or non emergent. Think of all the hips, knees, stress tests, physicals, etc that aren’t happening. I work with docs and hospitals and this is a huge financial hit.

And to your point, Ortho surgeons are sitting at home. Granted...if they don’t have a cushion it’s their own fault as those guys are paid well. But still....

This is pretty standard and also pretty shitty. A few years back during the icestorm nobody could get to the hospital so the nurses that were there were required to stay. Many worked 2-3 days straight. Also nurses are expected to be 'on call' in case there is a census spike, so they might get called in during the middle of the night. Yet when census is low their hours get cut to the bone OR they get 'floated' to other units where they are less experienced and less comfortable. Also these days with the electronic medical records they are constantly sitting at a computer entering endless mindnumbing minutiae. It's pretty brutal treatment for the folks who are the backbone of the medical system. RNs do everything from calculating and delivering complicated medications to bathing patients and drying their tears. They are like NCOs in the army.

There is also going to be fallout for the patient in this. PT is the key to recovery....a lot of people need the urging a PT does to do it. Physicals and tests are not being done and some people are going to have things diagnosed later which can mean the difference between life and death. This is a very serious situation no matter what your politics are....simple, everyday things that happen to folks are now accompanied with higher levels of risks due to the virus and our reaction and some people are going to suffer because of it. Y'all be safe!

I just can’t wait til Trump sniffs out this fake virus conspiracy, because my shoulder fricking hurts, I can’t jack off properly, my wife is going stir crazy, and Hookers are on lockdown.

Those last 3 are going to result in some serious violence if it goes on much longer! With everyone at home streaming TV and "working" wink wink there ain't enough bandwidth to stream porn!!! Going to be a HUGE uptick in old school porn mags if this keeps up.....I haven't jerked off without a free hand in years and don't even know if I remember how to do so holding a magazine but I think its like riding a bike....

re: St. Mary hospital athens
I had shoulder surgery 30 Oct. 2018, and it was horrible. Doc said it looked like a bomb went off inside. After 4 months of serious rehab. the doctor had to put me to sleep, and do a manipulation. Then, 2 more months of serious rehab. They got me back to about 85% of normal, and that's the best I can hope for. It took me 11 months before I could sleep on my left side, and it was very slow progress. It's the worst physical pain over a long period I've ever experienced. Good luck with your shoulder!
