After thinking about it, it was probably the smart move by far. He may have just ended up sitting out the NFL season and getting paid nothing. At Georgia he can get paid while he rehabs and continues his education.

Bell was a 4 star. Signed with ND out of highschool so might be something there. Who knows.

I know we'd obviously prefer to still have him, but our DL hasn't had a true difference maker since 2022. I'm not counting a guy like Mykell who was kinda/sorta/maybe a DE but really was more of an edge rusher/OLB hybrid thing. I'm talking about an actual big bodied DL.
I am thrilled with what we've done in the portal at WR (and safety) as both of those were clearly important. But if we don't go balls to the wall on BOTH the OL and DL in the portal as well then the rest of those pickups are essentially irrelevant.
