You’re comparing a 2nd year starter to the results to a guy that at the same point in his career had to transfer to get playing time. Or to a freshman that struggled against NC State.
My point is it’s way too early to determine whether Gunner is a difference maker. He’s had zero reason to press this far and it would’ve been reckless to do it in our first three games. He finished 6th in qbr in 2025 just behind Chambliss and is 1st in 2026 YTD.
If we get behind or in a shoot out and he can’t deliver, then I’d be more inclined to agree but it’s still too early.

Gunner already is a difference maker.
We've seen since the SECCG against Texas.
He isn't better than Stetson. But a 2 time national champion is a high bar. He does have a case for being equivalent (Gunner is 22 years old. Stetson was 24 on the first natty).

That’s the caveat of kids waiting their turn. Theyre upper classmen when they finally get the starting role.
His only full season as a starter he got us a SECC and to the playoffs. Finished at 6th for QBR nationally.
We’re 3 games into his second season. He’s currently 1st in QBR and has really only seen 7 qtrs of football.
It’s a good thing we don’t need the QB to play out of his mind to win games. Look at what happened to LSU when Leavitt was seeing shadows. Look at how Curtis performed against NCState.
I think he’s doing just fine.

He is doing just fine. My question is will that be enough to go where we want to go? With the QB talent in conference and at other teams, I'm not so sure.
I would love to be proven wrong though and will gladly eat crow if Gunner turns out to be a guy.
If he can be the equivalent of Beck for Miami last year, I think that's our best path. We don't have a toney though and I think Dawson has a better system than Bobo

His run from Ole miss to Texas last year was the best he looked.
