That show at the music hall? There is a BBQ place in that area in upper king st that I have never been to, but the holy trinity of Lewis BBQ, home team BBQ, and Rodney Scott are a short drive from there, and each specialize in different things.

Yep. Music Hall with the CSO.

Rodney Scott I'm pretty sure I've heard of... family runs Scott's in Hemingway, SC, right? Lewis and Home team I've not heard much about...

My personal BBQ judging criteria are: exceptional pulled pork (ideally pretty lean - no big chunks of fat), some form of sauce that has some kick to it... nothing super sweet, and some legitimately solid sides in their own right (mac n cheese, brunswick stew, collards...)

My favorite spots will tick all of those boxes, but it's my opinion that properly smoked meat is nearly never bad... it might just not be my favorite.

For the places you just mentioned, what's the highlight/specialty for each in your opinion (if you don't mind sharing)?

It doesnt look like your boy has a restaurant. Who do he send his pigs to? Thats where Fib needs to go.

Yeah, he just raises them. My understanding is that he supplies a few different places in Charleston. He's got a farm on Wadmalaw Island where he lives and another in SW GA where we're originally from.
I'm sure if Fibo reached out to him he could let him know where to find his pork. Tell him his cuz recommended it.

Scott’s is more old school with vinegar based and a pepper kick if I recall. Lewis is hipster trucker hat BBQ, but it’s very good. Home Team has a lot of selections and sauces, but it’s all good eating. I also like Swig and Swine a lot. In the Lewis genre.

Wadmalaw is where all Charleston’s “farm to table”stuff comes from it seems.

Yeah that's his whole gig, all natural, let's them roam and eat natural foods, even "humane butchering." I'm not exactly sure how they do that but I think they gas them or something so the hog never knows he's about to die and, therefore, the meat is more tender.

"I’d just tag-teamed a KD in the parking lot with Sky, the owner of Sky’s place"

Wasn't Sky supposed to be gay? Definitely heard that with some frequency years ago. Don't suppose it matters much either way.

Sky story here. I was behind him as he was going into the old Gator Bowl for Ga Fla. The year I can't remember. Anyway, he has a twelve pack in one hand a bottle of liquor in the other and his ticket was between his teeth. Handed the ticket taker his ticket with his teeth and the taker tore off the stub and stuck it back in Sky's teeth.

It's hilarious because a) dawgfaninca is super weird and b) it's oddly specific. Nobody remembers the exact thing they said 40 years ago unless it's an important life event, and maybe not even then.

I think we all learned something here. If you want Jefferson to make a thread about you, tell him it’s a thread about him. Class dismissed.

In other words.... if you can’t hold your own in a debate with me, just start a thread to rally other weaklings that share your plight.

That way you can all comfort each other and share stories about your hurt feelings.

Have no idea.

I do know that if I hadn't made him self-conscious of his serial name-dropping, Peter Buck would have already written you a biography on Sky for you. With himself squarely in the center of every single super cool adventure that may have occurred. Trust me on that one.

I bet his hands are shaking right now having to hold it all in.

Lets see who can nail Jeffersons response to this.....here goes: Did I hurt your little victim feelings? You're so aggressively average.

I had a hunch that the 'aggressively average' thing had barbs that would stick.

Thanks for confirming. I'll probably expand on this one going forward.

In the last 5 days... 20% of all your posts have contained the word cringe (4/20)... this in and of itself may also be cringe inducing. #cringeception

Guyz,

I started this thread out of frustration that Jefferson doesn’t bow down to my name-dropping and the connections I brag about like the rest of you do. But he just still won’t get in line. So I was thinking maybe this thread could be like a support group for others dealing with similar issues.

Is anybody else dealing with psychological trauma from words on a computer screen? Please feel free to open up and share. Maybe we could have coffee and donuts brought in.
