OT: Georgia Power - Budget billing, thoughts?
Anyone do budget billing with Ga Power? I could save considerably this month which makes sense since my usage was through the roof in July. I’m assuming they would get it back in the fall and it would feel like I’m overpaying.

Anyone have any thoughts on it?

I think it lowers people's guard and they don't conserve once on it and it ends up going up and up year after year.

In my mind I know it’s a racket and I can’t understand why. Lol that does make sense though, my wife even hinted at that. I did say it had to adjust to your usage somehow.

I'm on budget billing here with a local utility company that buys from TVA. I pay much lower in the summer and winter months than before and overpay in the spring and fall to balance out.
We keep the thermostat on 74 and run ceiling fans in every room to keep the house comfortable. I drop down to 68 at bedtime. Come winter I set the thermostat at 66 and wear sweats if it gets cool.

I do budget billing as well with GP. My bill, year to year, has gone up about $3-5 monthly over a 3 year period.

Actually I am on it and like it. It makes it easier to budget, because you know exactly what your bill is going to be each month.

There is a way to get notifications of how much your bill would be each day. Typically, for us, we (more or less) bank money in the fall and spring and even some in the winter, but it pretty much goes away during the hot summer months.

We've been on it for several years now.

It adjusts every year according to how much you use. It can go up or down depending on you. Just keep an eye on it, and make sure you don't become complacent and start leaving lights on or turning the air down or heat up. As long as you keep an eye on it, it is fine.

We just started our 2nd year of it. It's pretty solid.

I like getting the $367 power bill, it keeps me diligent on conserving energy. Cleaning hvac coils and keeping filters clean, ticking the thermostat up a notch, yelling at my kid for keeping the door open too long like he's staring out into an Austrian mountain vista in rapture, etc.

How's the solar market in Georgia? I have solar and never get a electric bill. The Electric company actually pays me back at the end of the year.

Mt bill is averaged with the current month plus the previous 11 months so my monthly bill fluctuates monthly, but never more than a few dollars.

Wow. That's interesting. I know ours stays the same for a year, then GP adds or subtracts the difference in the usage bill, so the bill changes once a year.

Our bill has fluctuated....most years it has gone up, but has actually gone down once or twice.

Over the last five years our bill has gone up an average of $4 a month each year. Not sure if that is because we are using more electricity, or if it is inflation....but I know our a/c unit is not extremely efficient, and my mom lives with us and she tends to leave lights on. We also leave the ceiling fan in our bedroom on all the time and she does, too.

Those ceiling fans will probably use no more than a few dollars a month in electricity. Less than the light bulb with it. We leave three ceiling fans on from morning till bedtime, then leave the one in our bedroom on all night. When we're cooking in the afternoon in the summer we turn on a pedestal fan in the hallway and a floor fan in the kitchen, but never lower the thermostat.
