Got the Spirit II for my new house down here in Gulf Shores, always been a Weber kettle charcoal guy but I love the grill.

Cooks great and easy clean up, pretty much use it daily...

Speaking of grilling, my old Char Griller Duo has reached the end of its life. Thinking of replacing it with another because the charcoal or gas functionality is hard to beat. For $300 bucks it’s not a bad deal considering it’ll just rust out every 5-6 yrs.

But I’ve been tempted by the gravity fed charcoal smokers. Just afraid that’ll be a pain for whipping up a quick batch of burgers and dogs…and not sure I want to pay $700. Thoughts and experiences?

I’ve come full circle and have gone back to a Weber kettle charcoal grill to cook most things out of doors. I’ve still got the egg for butts and ribs and mostly for steaks, because I like the 700 degree high heat medium rare method . But I use the kettle twice as much probably for all the other things.

There’s just something pure and simple about it. And I like that I can roll it out to different parts of the property instead of being in a fixed spot all the time.

I got the Premium version ($200 bucks I think) which has a good thermometer so keeping temps steady is a breeze. And comes with char baskets for direct and indirect simultaneously. Something most grills or smokers can’t do. Example….. When you throw your wings on , flip them around over direct heat first for couple of minutes to get some grill char marks, then move them to indirect for rest of the cook. Then at end, toss them in sauce and put back over direct heat and flip them around to crisp them up. You can do about two dozen at a time on it

Anyway, if anyone has a Kettle and wants their arse whipped in a kettle off, let me know

I have a masterbuilt 560. I would recommend it but it does have it's issues with electrical shite that you wouldn't normally have to deal with when starting a grill.

Gets up to temp super quick though and is easy to clean.

Side note:

Why the hell do we allow them to mess with the clocks? Changing time for no reason whatsoever , that anyone can coherently explain

This is so much better

I have the BGE as well. A weber kettle for quick cooks, and a pit barrel smoker that has been a go to here lately. Also have the blackstone 36.

My wings on the pit barrel are really good per my neighbors. They go direct on the grate but since it is higher over the coals than the weber I usually tune them every 30 minutes or so. They get a good amount of smoke. Finishing them off using the volcano method I think really makes them crispy on the outside.

as mentioned...how do you post pics without using photobucket.

I've grilled less than a dozen times in last 6 years. Shits not the same without a beer in my hand.

Gonna do a lil 4'x16' raised bed. All I could talk these mfer's into.

Luckily there's tons of family farms with roadside mkts in the area to purchase quantities for canning ....

Found this honeybee swarm yesterday afternoon on a neighbors lime tree on the cart path while taking the mutt on her ride...

My wife planted tomatoes a week early. Cold front came through and killed them, despite putting bins over them to "protect" them.
