I'm looking for some health insurance for a 1099 gig I've been offered and I feel like USAA is ripping my family off on auto insurance.

Let's do business.

My proposed gig pays too much to get a subsidy. The exchange is meaningless to me at this particular moment.

Everybody i knew that sold health insurance 20 years ago got a haircut on commissions and sells group plans only.

Im guessing that you aren't going to find an agency that sells individual policies. If it isn't the marketplace, it would be direct online somewhere.

There are "clubs", "associations", and "collectives" that have good insurance options from what I hear. But I dont know anything about them other than they are the closest thing we have to old school group plans.

You may have success with the Google machine trying to find some group to join.

While I can't help you, I feel as though I'm a very lucky man with our situation. Between my wife and me, we pay more than ever for health insurance, but from what I hear and see, we're ok. My last shoulder surgery totaled $125,000.00 according to all the paperwork I received and kept. We paid a total of $18.00 out of pocket.

Obama Care is a ripoff.

Stay away from medishare.... total scam.... Consider wrapping your independent coverage with products like aflac and others that cover accidents or critical illness up to the point of your deductible or max out of pocket.

The one thing I will say about ACA is if you aren't picky about your doctors and just want coverage, it will do what it says it will do but at very high deductible.

That is group insurance too, now.

The year before ACA, I had $175 deductible and $750 out of pocket max.

Reach out to Aflac or one of their competitors about supplemental coverages for accidents, cancer, or critical illness in the amount of your moop and living expenses ... Short term disability helps here to.

May only be $30-$40 a month and could save you a ton of money if needed.

Usaa is $2 a month more than progressive for our cars. I went back after having an accident where I was hit by another progressive customer and progressive treated me like total shite.

Insurance is a sleazy business and they often forget that the only thing that separates them from a pyramid scheme is the occasional paying out of claims.....

With the money they generate, they should love taking care of claims.... it makes that enterprise legit... and there is plenty of money to go around.
