CBS walked away from the negotiating table. Their new TV deal is expected to go to Disney/ESPN/ABC for $250-$300 million per season more than the previous deal. That puts at least $20 million more into each school's revenue fund annually.

Could care less just show me the game. Complaining about announcers - which is where this thread will go - is so low on my priority list of things to whine about.

That’s fricking bullshite... It just won’t be the same

I sincerely hope CBS renegotiates terms and keeps their coverage.

I'm not a fan of how long CBS games take. However, I do love the classic SEC theme on CBS. Part of me will miss it.

The reason they take so long is because they keep paying ridiculous prices for the coverage which means they increase the number of ads. ESPN is be just as bad and you get Pam Ward and Beth Mowins.

This will only get worse. When there is more money on the table for the networks they will try to make it up through advertisement revenue. They can only charge so much per commercial, so they have to add commercials.

This doesn’t start until 2024 when the current contract runs out.

I tend to agree with athens-ga. As long as I have access to the games, I don't really care which network thye are on. Maybe I should....but I don't.

that's kinda the common sense thought which I agree with, but the SEC has been on CBS since the late 90s. The SEC hahs been on CBS since I started becoming aware of football and watchign games so I've basically watched CBS my whole life. It's just going to feel weird having it on a different station, I"m sure everyone will get used to it in time though.

I also can't help but smh at the multitude of people (not on this board necessarily, I"m talking everywhere) that say "thank God we don't have to listen to gary anymore!" At this point it's simply a meme that has been through the echo chamber so much that people say it because they think it's funny but have no idea why they're actually saying it. Gary is one of the best in the business and is awesome at what he does. Most popel will say "he's such a bama homer!" which isn't really true, and is also funny because if you ask the bama fans they'll tell you he hates bama.

$300m to broadcast 14 or so “amateur” football games from one conference each year... think about that.

Hey man, old people are the ones that are supposed to resist change and it doesn't bother me. Get with the system! Embrace the change!

I've felt the same way. I don't get the hate he gets. I find him to be insightful and engaging. I think some people pick apart every single word looking for something to complain about. They do that on this board, too. It's crazy.

Disagree strongly. And not because of Bama. Gary is thin in his delivery. He latches to one thing and hammers it over and over in the broadcast. That isnt good color analyst And a good percentage of the time (20%), that thing isnt even a correct assessment.

I dont care the channel.

The exposure alone from CBS and the protected time were worth untold millions to the conference.

I hope they can get back to the bargaining table but I doubt it. CBS flat out refused to renegotiate the current deal even after expansion.Pretty sure it left a bad taste in the mouth of the SEC

Agree. Its flat out silly and ridiculous.
Yeah,he talks a little too much but people need to listen to the nuts and bolts of what he's saying. He's got great insight into every SEC team and he does his homework.

we'll just agree to disagree here because I totally disagree with your disagreement lol.

Repeating somethign over and over, ok I guess I can see that but it doesn't bother me. As for his assessments I think you're totally incorrect here. Often times it amazes me how he'll predict a playcall and then see it happen. The guy is a great football mind and truly knows his stuff. He also does a really good job at breaking things down in review.

You also have to realize a TV color guy isn't supposed to be there for the diehard folks that post on football message boards. He's broadcasting to millions across the country and is there to provide insight and analysis that's easily digestible. It may not be as deep and intricate as you may personally prefer but I don't think it's his job to provide that.

I'll miss being on CBS because that's what I was raised on but give me primetime SEC football and not being stuck at 3:30 every single damn time there is a big game

1) Does anyone have any insight on how the time slots will change? I know that ESPN has always had to be mindful of CBS's 3:30 slot and not eat into that which now is not a factor so I assume ESPN can just come up with whatever time slots they want? Also will the SEC be on ABC as well or just all ESPN? I wasn't clear on that

2) I do like more night games from the team/home field advantage aspect, but from a selfish personal standpoint I loved the 3:30 game. It's just about a perfect time slot. You don't necessarily have to get up super early although obviously you can if you want. You get to see the 1st half of the noon games. You're generally home at a reasonable hour and catching the late games. Wtih a night game you essentially are using up your entire day and getting home late as hell. I sound like such an old fuddy duddy but I don't really enjoy makign the night games as much as I used to coampred to the afternoon games.

I would think folks only have speculation at this point. I think the 3:30 slot is still ideal because, frankly, the SEC owns that shite. You've seen FOX do this Big Noon Kickoff shite to avoid competing with the night games and then 3:30. But I read something (and I hope I am recalling it right) that said that the lack of flexibility we have is because we have a deal with 2 set of networks. That was known but I guess it was and is a nightmare to do any adjustments.

With the Mouse owning our souls I think they can put it wherever they hell they want. I would think they'd hold the biggest games for ABC 8pm and 2nd biggest game at 3:30 on ABC. Everything else as is. I just think that's been their MO without owning the SEC.

I also think this includes ABC because that's network TV and has the reach. I would think they'd have the top 2 games on ABC. That's my best guess but also what I have read.

Yea. I am sure it will be maintained still. I don't think they will backload schedules. It is just nice knowing that if you have a marquee game coming up you're not going to be pigeonholed into 3:30.

But imagine a world where the WLCOP is at night like 2002.

my buddies were just talking about that. I recall that after 2002 the schools and JAX all decided they wouldnt' ever do that again, btu with CBS now out of the picture who knows? This would also be 20+ years later so maybe people DGAF anymore.

Not gonna happen again. The SEC made it clear to their network partners that wouldn't fly and "encouraged" CBS to broadcast that game every year.

If you recall, it's one of the first picks from CBS each season.
