I know there's another topic on here but I'm too lazy to find it. I'm declaring this the new official topic.

Where to stay? Any UGA party buses from NO or anything? Or do I need to go ahead and set that up and start selling reservations?

Skip New Orleans, stay in Mandeville/Covington or Hammond(Hammond is home to Gnarly Barley, I consider their family of crafts beers the best I have ever had). Both places have nice downtown's. Covington's downtown is basically like Athens with great restaurants and bars.

I have spent a lot of time in both and have family in Madisonville.

New Orleans has lost it's charm to me and I could care less to ever set foot there again unless watching the Dawgs play for the playoffs/NC.

I was on Bourbon St this weekend. Was fun and crawling with ladies but I’m clearly too old for that scene now.

I plan on staying in some nowhere town a few miles away down 12. Much easier and when I'm ready to leave town I'm not in an immediate traffic jam.

For those of you traveling with wives that don't want to stay in a shithole in the middle of nowhere.... please chime in too.

All the town's on 12 are nicer than New Orleans, all of them. Anywhere across there puts you in close proximity to Hammond, Madisonville, Covington, or Mandeville. Even Slidell has a nice Old Town with bars and restaurants.

I've stayed in several hotels both in the French Quarter and along St. Charles toward Garden District/Uptown. All were perfectly fine for my debaucherous purposes. I have also done the airbnb thing which was a little sketchier, but that's probably customer error.

I can go back and figure out which ones if that would be helpful.

I don't know about any transport options to LSU, but they certainly exist.

I dont know about Hammond.
We are bringing a large group from the OC with us. We are staying Thursday night in New Orleans then going to Baton Rouge on Friday. My entire immediate family lives in Baton Rouge so we will be staying with Friends and Family.

Note anything New Orleans way (North Shore or NO proper) is a good hour drive. About like driving to Athens from Atlanta.

UGA travels so well I am sure hotels in Baton Rouge will be high. There is a nice not far from LSU Hotel on Bluebonnet. Its a Renaissance hotel. Short drive to LSU. Plus if you want to get your Jesus on, Jimmy Swaggarts is right across the road. However there is a lot to do in that area. Shops, restaurants all recently built.

There is also a nice casino hotel down river road from LSU. But it usually is expensive and packed during LSU football games. Its a newer one and pretty nice.

Like Georgia Tech as soon as you get off campus at LSU towards downtown Baton Rouge it gets really dicey so be smart.

This is the one day I will NOT be rooting for UGA. But wont be upset if LSU loses because well UGA won and its one more nail in the Yaw Yaw coffin. However I pray its a night game as opposed to the 2:30 game. (which seems likely)
This way we can get enough booze in us for the beat down we are confident UGA will deliver to buffoon head coach.
Like I said in another thread we are sure the stadium will be left of the UGA fans by half.

Thanks for the info. I'm hoping for the CBS 330 (230) game. Don't want a night game in Baton Rouge, as a visiting fan.

Also, 2:30 is plenty of time to eat and drink if you start around 9 am. It also leaves a little time after the game to eat and drink more without doing a 2AM rager, which I'm too old for.

This was my thinking. On gameday, I don't want to be worried about logistics, I'd like to wake up in the same zip code as the game, and be able to go to sleep in the same.

Arrive by noon local Thurs in NO, eat oysters and drink beer, check in to hotel, take a Cemetary tour, eat shrimp and drink beer, go see a weird jazz band at the spotted cat, get a sack of krystals to take back to the room, eat, pass out.

Fri- check out of hotel. Eat crawfish omelette and a bloody mary. Drive to Baton Rouge. ***Need input***

Sat- Gametime affects alot.... too early to plan too much ***need input***

Sun- check out of hotel, drive back to NO. Enjoy the rest of Sunday and maybe Monday in NO, come back to ATL.

We're thinking about taking the Crescent to New Orleans and renting a car. Fun trip.

New Orleans is a good time. The Garden District and down Magazine and St Charles are much nicer than Bourbon which is usually a bunch of drunk Yankees.

If you want a REALLY nice place to eat in New Orleans (there are thousands) but a really good one (A bit fancy) is Le Petite Grocery. Also Broussards is one of my favorites in the Quarter.
For a good traditional creole meal that is more laid back on Jackson Square check out Gumbo Shoppe.

In Baton Rouge, down Highland Road is Ruffinos, very big with the incoming TV crews one of my favorite places. Its italian (and other stuff) but is really good and kind of a cool local place very "LSUey".

For good beers and decent food. The Chimes is popular. As the game approaches will send more recommendations, ideas. Little off the beaten path my favorite place is Jones Creek Cafe (I grew up less than a mile away so bias). Best Gumbo and Po Boys in town.

100% agree. North shore is nice but nothing like Athens.

Spent a large amount of time in both cities, the down towns are very similar, some of you have not been to Covington in a while. Hammond has also greatly changed since some of you have been to the downtown area.

I have also lived in New Orleans, it's a shite hole. When there anymore, I spend all my time in the warehouse district away from the tourist traps.

based on the lack on hotels in BR, I was planning on staying in NOLA. I am banking on the UGA crew doing their bus trip but that wont be scheduled for a while. Do many visiting fans do this or do you think they try to stay near BR? If I have to drive, then staying in NOLA prob isnt the best option

To be very honest. I really dont know the answer to that question being I never really noticed when I grew up or when I went to school there. I do know when I was working in the French Quarter as a young lad that often on Friday nights before LSU home games there were ALWAYS lots of visiting fans around so I assume they do. I am willing to bet they have something being run by the local hotels to shuttle people back and forth. I simply do not know. I bet there will be alumni groups/booster clubs doing something.

Another thought if BR and NO are not appealing or cost, Lafayette is not that far considering. Its a pretty easy 45 minute shot down I-10 to get to Tiger Stadium. Plus if you want to try cajun country you got Tabasco, Cajun country, the Basin, Lafayette itself. ITs kind of the heart of it.

Couple of other thoughts, if you are coming in from New Orleans. Take the Highland Road Exit. THis is our version of Milledge minus the greek houses. Its a straight shot into LSU and has similar big southern style homes and areas. Saban use to live on Highland Road. Plus you skip the nightmare of Baton Rouge Traffic on Game Day.

Also traffic at LSU games rivals Downtown Atlanta on a good day. Even with counterflow. So plan on taking awhile to get back home no matter what direction. It often took us two hours to get home from a game and I lived literally 15 miles away. If the game is as exepcted a blow out by UGA, most LSU fans will start heading for the exits (we suck as fans sometimes) so that will help.

One half of mine lives there now. Fridays in Covington are great, walk around with a beer, look at classic cars, live music, great food, and plenty of bars. They are building $600k condos in downtown Covington. You have not been there in a while.

I lived in Fat City and for a long time defended New Orleans, I can't anymore. One of our crew at a Trade Show in NO got stabbed and mugged about a year and a half ago. Same trip we went by a homeless lady shooting up a block off bourbon with her toddler sitting there. Screw that.

World Of Beer and Dragos in the Warehouse district is all I care about anymore when there. The rest is a tourist trap and the city has gotten worse again.
