I wish Bobo would be less creative and go back to run run pass punt.

We could do a lot worse than Bobo in the same way we could have done a lot worse than Stetson. Be careful what you wish for. I thought Bobo did a great job yesterday given where Beck's confidence was. Bobo spread the ball laterally and did a good job of getting it out of Beck's hands on no brainer throws. Really sort of reminded me what Monkey used to do with Stetson in managing the QBs psyche during the game. Apparently it worked as Beck seemed to settle down in the second half. That last pick wasn't on him.

But he does coach them. They are still doing stuff they were doing the first game.

Bobo has not been the problem; Beck and our receivers to some extent have been the issue. You can't spot the best teams 3 INTs and expect to win though thanks to our stout defense we did exactly that vs Texas.
I did take exception when Bobo called a pass on 3rd and 2 but maybe he doesn't have confidence in our run blocking. If that's the case, it needs to change for this team to be effective against the best teams in college football.

The first game was a solid win over a top 10 team. Beck had 2 TDs and 0 INTs. He hasn't done that well very often this season.

Bobo makes some good play calls and some bad and very predictable calls.

Todd Monken please come home!

I don't know if you watch Brooks Austin or not, but I highly recommend you watch the game breakdowns on the Film Guy Network. Bobo's playcalling looks suspect from the outside, but they do a good job of showing how a lot of these plays are there to feel out the defense and build explosive plays for later in the game.

The main issues seem to be pretty basic:

1. Beck, for whatever reason, has taken a huge step back in reading coverages this season. Couple that with a lot of inaccurate passes thrown to high or behind receivers, and it's killing drives or leading to picks

2. The receivers' route running is awful this year. They struggle to get separation, and they also seem to not change their routes based on zone coverage. On top of that, they don't seem to have any idea what Beck's checks are. Prime example would be one of the interceptions against Alabama where Beck signaled to Smith to run a screen, and Smith missed it completely. The play was perfectly set up for a touchdown. The same thing happened in the Florida game, and the announcers even saw it and called it out. Beck did a handsign to Lovett, and Lovett just shrugged and ran the wrong route. What should have been an explosive or a touchdown ended up in a wrong route and a 4th down. The receivers just aren't getting it.

3. Our o-line has regressed substantially since Pittman left. There have been a number of running plays where we'd run a counter, and our guards would run into each other... it looks like they have no idea which way the run is supposed to go. There have also been a large number of times where the center would call out blocking assignments pre-snap, and Beck would have to run up to the line and correct him.

tl;dr, Bobo's playcalling has been fine... it's lack of preparation by the players that's killing our offense, and i would think that has more to do with the position coaches sucking at getting the most out of their players.

Eh I’m one of the biggest bobo haters you will find.

That said

Against Florida the play calling was pretty decent and was one of Bobos better called games.

Sounds like we need a new WR coach more than anything.

The receiver’s missing check down calls is dangerous as they can lead to interceptions pretty easily. It appears they use hand signals. that is common, though no idea why our guys are not seeing it or at least reacting accordingly.

Yeah, it seems like transition from McClendon to Coley has gone pretty poorly.

Unrelated, but same goes for the new CB coach. Wouldnt be surprised if both are one and done.

Well said. Miscommunication happened with Arian on that route and now Lovett too. Makes me wonder if Beck is fricking those up?

On Bobo, didnt love the two drives in the late 3rd and early 4th before Florida tied it up. Had a lead and it was 3rd and 2 and we go with a pretty aggressive pass play...while I appreciate the aggressiveness, feel like he wasn't reading the room. Same thing happened at Texas. Was waiting for the man ball drive where we just lean on the run game and kill some clock.

Maybe that shows how bearish the coaches are in online and run game in general. Really surprised Kirby hasn't vetoed those plays

You can see pretty clearly on the film that Beck puts his hand low, looks left and makes a hand signal rubbing his fingers together. And after the play he is clearly upset that 6 didn’t pick it up.

I agree, just odd that has happened like that twice with two different receivers.

Sure both the WR could have fricked up, but devils advocate, who is the common denominator? Not like either of those WR are new to the system either. Just weird to be that mixed up consistently.

Hard for us to know everything. Becks’s body language after both looked like frustration with the players. Different from when he makes a bad read/forces a throw.

That is something you can fix. Not great it is happening week 10.

I think you hit the nail on the head. No Bobo isn't perfect but he can't go execute the plays for us, all he can do is call them. When Beck completely derps it up, or receivers run the wrong route, or drop the ball that hits them in the hands, that's not on bobo.

At this point people simply have it in their head that Bobo sucks and there is literally nothing that can change their mind. It's like politics, once an individual knows their candidate is their person that's simply all there is to it regardless of any new informaiton that may be learned. In the stadium Saturday I can't tell you how many times I heard people around me trashing bobo, for seemingly no reason other than that's waht they think they're supposed to be doing. Prime example, after UF's botched FG when we get the ball and the momentum, our next play on 1st down was a run for 6 yards. There isn't an OC in America that would turn down a 6 yard run on 1st down, but the guy behind me was dog cussing bobo for not "going for the kill shot" and throwing to the endzone. People like that simply cannot be reasoned with.

It’s because these people spend a ton of emotional energy on this, yet, for some reason, refuse to understand and learn what is happening and how it really works. The politics reference is spot on, though I’d say football is more transparent and easier to understand.
