Casino and entertainment giant MGM Resorts International is pitching a $1 billion gambling complex for downtown Atlanta that backers say would funnel tens of millions of dollars into the HOPE scholarship. But first it would have to overcome stiff opposition in the General Assembly and the governor’s office.

Would love it. Doubt it'll happen though.

ATL would love it, but it's a state decision, not a city decision. And when the state is involved, that means all the JeffersonDawgs get involved, and ATL is evil and frick ATL and frick the sinful people that want that casino.
Reverse busy-bodies.

Makes too much sense ever get past the state legislature. Kind of like the original version of the proposed GA Beer Law.

The worst part is that a lot of the people who will block this from happening will have no trouble calling themselves "small government"
It's a larger version of the same "small government" crowd that kept Sunday alcohol sales from happening for a long time.

I'm for it only if they don't cause gay sharks

Awful idea if it's put in downtown Atlanta. It would make the already "uncomfortable at night" Underground Atlanta/Centennial Park even more "uncomfortable at night" IMO. We need something positive to promote the area, and this is just not what it is going to take. The only way I support this idea is if they decide to put it in Cobb, Cherokee, Forsyth, or Hall.

Police presence would increase significantly. Those motherfrickers don't play. They make it easy to come in the door.

Agree, probably get their own precinct as part of the deal. It would actually go a long way to getting the area cleaned up.

The Doraville plant site would be a good option, IMO.

Can't. Movie studios are being built on that site.

Forsyth, or Hall.
Throw that bitch up by the Avenues. I'm fine with that.

In that case, just piss off all the rich folks in Milton and build it on one of their horse farms.

The Reynolds pitched the idea (under the guise of American Indians ) 15 yrs ago to state legislatures too bid out a casino with horse tracks @ Lake Oconee. Their plan would have put it in Hancock or Greene Co and would of created 1200 jobs in the poorest county in Georgia. It made so much sense the state turned it down.

Hancock County would be the perfect place for it. Or piss of the folks on Lake Sinclair and put it in Milledgeville (the folks down there would lose their damned minds at the mere suggestion and then patronize the shite out of it the moment they cut the ribbon)

I agree with you. Hancock Co ( near Shoulder Bone Plantation ) was the original plan set before the state. To this day ,I can't believe they turned it down?

Nobody is going to build a Billion dollar casino in Georgia unless it is in downtown ATL. Stop with all this metro atl bullshite.
Lake Oconee? Great idea. But it wont be a billion dollars and it wont be the first one built.
