Will Matt Luke stay with us as OL coach for a couple of years or look for an OC or HC job somewhere? Is he even OC material here?

He'd be crazy not to try to move back up the ladder.

We should make him our OC.

Why? He's never called plays before, to my knowledge.

I'm not sure what all these titles mean, but officially Matt Luke is the "Associate Head Coach" at UGA... whatever that means

OK, give him the official title of Quarterback Whisperer.

Associate HC title is usually something the agent negotiates for extra cash - bowl game bonuses, etc.
It's like when actors get the Assistant Executive Producer credits for points on the back end on distribution/syndication.

Gotcha. I didn't know if that meant that technically he'd be Coley's superior / if it was lined up that he'd take an active role in coaching the offense beyond just being an o-line coach.

I think everything is dependent on Jimmy Sexton's Kung fu...

He is already associate head coach for us. I think he stays a while.

I think he was OC calling plays before getting the interim jump to HC.
He doesnt have a lot of experience. But he has worked with some great playcallers. There is potential based upon his prior experiences.

With state schools there are rules and guidelines etc for what you can make based on job titles so you don't get sued by libertarian cvnts masquerading as government watchdogs.
That's why there's so many associate hc's.

I thought Luke got a raw deal at Ole Miss. They were behind the 8-ball and he was coaching with his hands tied behind his back. Then when they got in the clear and he could start recruiting etc. they fired him.
He seems to be a likeable guy, and the players on the sidelines Wednesday night seemed to really like him. I'm glad we got him, and hope we can keep him for awhile.
I've been impressed with our defense, too, obviously. It would be interesting to know how much of it is Lanning and how much of it is Kirby. Whatever it is, it is working.

It's early times, but maybe he's the guy who helps Kirby step back from things and give the offense some space to evolve.

With any team when you win your staff gets hired off . I think Luke is here for a few years to rebuild his name though . Damn
Glad we got him

Assistant coaches staying in the program is going to be the exception compared to the rule here soon, they are likely going to quickly be hired elsewhere ala bama coaches.

No Freeze called/calls plays. Werner had more of a hand as well.

agree to disagree. freeze gave up most playcalling responsibilities
This is from a 247 article 11/2/15.
I read from another bulldawg article (from when he was hired at UGA) that Luke was calling plays. This link was the first on a google search.

Freeze said Werner and Luke called around 80 percent of the plays Saturday. They called 2/3rds of the plays against Texas A&M.

Your second link lumps both coaches together. No implication of Werner over luke.
Your first link is about the hire of Werner at South Carolina. It shouldn't be a surprise that they dont get into matt luke.
If you read my link about Ole miss, it is pretty apparent that werner called the passing plays and luke called the run plays. Ole miss had a prolific passing offense in 2015. A lot of that credit goes to Werner. No doubt. But the run game was damn good, too. Led conference play for rushing TDs, ypa, and ypg.
The point remains (as I said earlier)... Luke has limited playcalling experience from before he was a head coach.
