Agreed.
The offense was a rudderless ship last year.

Eh
It's up to the players to execute.

then why would you have those guys playing and not give the other guys a chance
Because we didn't have anyone else.

Explain in great detail what you mean by rudderless ship. I’d like to understand what that means to you and how you got there.

1st pick in the Texas game with 9:57 left in the first quarter.
2nd Quarter with about 3 mins left in the Alabama game.
Bad INT on his part early in the second quarter against Fla.

This was a QUALITY issue with the WRs….not coaching. At that level you shouldn’t have to coach a receiver at how to catch. Maybe timing between QB and WRs due to not enough reps could be coaching but when it hits you in the damn hands…that’s on the WR not being good enough.
But receivers can lose their confidence though, which is on the WR coach.
Remember fans booing Mo Mass in 2006 or 2007, whenever it was? Mo Mass lost his confidence and had the catching yips, which wasn't helped by the great Coach Eason.

The offensive line seemed really complacent and didn't play hungry last season, for whatever it's worth.

HS football doesn't run the ball like they used to. I don't believe the backs are developed like they once were.
They're seeing what's happening with RBs in the NFL not being valued as much as they used to be and are switching positions.

Texas showed Man but had a robber or something like that.. Beck saw man and threw it to the TE who had a step on theLB who had him in coverage. It was the right read in his progression I would assume. He didn’t see the robber coming from underneath and the other side. Beck also had some pressure. That was a good call by Texas D and great catch by the Texas guy. In addition, The Texas guy came from underneath and the other side and ran to that spot. Was a good defensive play call. If that guy is not there, 84 beats his LB and get 20 plus yards. I don’t know what Beck knew or saw, but I assume he didn’t not see that guy on the other side. This was not an egregious “threw it right into his hands play” like football dum dums said. At the end of the day it was on Beck for not seeing the guy and a great call by the defense in that situation. Not sure I would use that one as proof Beck sucked, but everyone is entitled to an opinion. Even stupid people have them.

Running backs these days are basically either too short to play linebacker or too stiff to play DB. or not quite fast enougn to play DB. Otherwise they would be a linebacker or DB.

I simply stated that Beck made some bad reads which lead to some interceptions. You told me I was wrong and I needed to post links so you could “educate” me.(lol) But thanks for confirming what I already knew. It took me all of 15 maybe 20 minutes to find 3 interceptions he threw into coverage very early in games. Maybe watch the games a little more closely this year Pete!

No sir…. You said terrible reads. I asked for proof. You named this one. Now, you have changed your stance from terrible to bad. Which is it? Terrible or bad?

Don't hAve time to look into it but Peter look at the 3 picks from Florida. I recall at least two of them being pretty awful

He didn’t want to bring up the pick vs Alabama…. ??????
Beck was a 2nd year starter and had been in the system for 4 years? Now looking back I will say that the ones he threw into double coverage were pretty terrible!
But the whole point is not only were you wrong but you looked like an idiot with the whole let me educate you comment. But you’ll never admit that ????

We are going to cover 1 at a time. Are you continuing with your stance that it was a “terrible read” in the Texas Int? If so, explain in your best football knowledge as to why it was.
Posted on 7/28/25 at 8:34 pm to Peter Buck
I’m convinced Beck was vaping THC and chasing tail in a Lambo last year. The sure fire TD drops definitely didn’t help the guy who was clearly struggling mentally.
Posted on 7/28/25 at 9:27 pm to Peter Buck
They were not in man coverage on that play and Beck should have know that with the prey snap motion they had with 84, the same player he tried to throw it to. The Texas player did make a good play but once he saw pass he simply dropped back into the zone. Pretty positive they were in cover 3. Maybe you needed the education?!?

They def had some sort of combo going on because they had a guy sitting with our receiver on the LOS on the right side the whole play and the LB was in man on 84. We ran a lot of clearout routes too. Bottom line, it was a great play by the D and a miss by Beck, but not a terrible read. If we can agree it was not a terrible read, we can move on to the next one.
Edit: watching the play again from a different angle, the defense could be considered cover 3, but they had a lot of stuff happening underneath. Also, the dude running with 84 passed him off once he cut in and 84 was behind the LB in a great spot to make the play. The dude who intercepted it did not immediately drop back like he was in zone and then he sprinted to the exact spot where the ball was coming. Pretty much right behind the LB. Typically don’t have 2 dudes in the same area in a standard zone set up. Think TX disguised the coverage and ran a guy right into the spot where the deep cross typically has a window. Win by the DC, great play by the defender, and a miss by Beck.

For the objective observer, there is a lot of coaching fault in your write up
Agreed. At the end of the day the coach, any coach, is paid to produce a product to a certain standard. If they don't, they have failed. The coaches did not produce a product last year that was any where near the standard of the previous 3 years; a standard mind you, they themselves set and stated time and time again they were committed to. None of this is even debatable, and it's really that simple. Everything else said is just an excuse. They have total control of the entire process from beginning to end, therefore any failure is their failure.

Couldn't help but laugh:the term "rudderless ship" being self explanatory. Please tell me you don't have a degree from UGA. NO! WAIT!!! I don't want to know the answer to that. I do want to thank you for a laugh during these summer doldrums though.
