That sucks. Hopefully they aren’t smart enough to hire Freeze.

Ethically, he’s a good fit there, though.

Your hate to see it......
Seriously though, I do hate to see it because UGA has had a very good record vs Malzahn's Auburn teams.
But no doubt he's laughing all the way to the bank with that buyout.
I think the main reason he got fired this season was due to Auburn's ridiculously bad recruiting class this year ranked 42nd with only 12 commits.

Not counting the support /coordinators staff they will have to pay off. More than likely a new coach is going to want to bring in his own staff. So, we can add another $3-4 million.

Wouldn't surprise me a bit if that didn't play into it at least a little.

Worse than I thought. from the Rant and NashvilleTider:

@ByBerkowitz
In wake of Gus Malzahn’s firing, if no assistants or his strength coach are retained, they will be owed combined total of around $8.3 million, though final amount will depend on termination dates and coaches’ duty to mitigate.
So, Auburn’s buyout tab could be around $30 million

So stupid, we haven't even seen the economic damage from covid and millions of dollars can be far better used than hiring another coach to lose to saban.

Add Missouri and Vandy to the list from the East and A&M, Miss St, Ole Miss and Arkansas from the West. He's got the third longest tenure in the conference behind Saban and Stoops
