Let's go ahead and this out of the way.

When Terry Godwin, Riley Ridley, and Mecole Hardman left, they got replaced by a 3-star grad transfer with a bad shoulder, and two true freshmen.

Oh, and a guy from the scout team.

We definitely took a step back this season on receivers. We kinda saw it coming, but hoped our new guys would step up more than they actually did. We disney'd that our new guys would do just as good.

The receiving corps has to do better next year.

I made a comment earlier in another thread, about the "10,000 Pass Challenge". Basically, Burrow and Joe Brady put together a "program" over the last offseason, where all the receivers had to catch 10,000 passes before the season started. I don't think they all had to be passed by Burrow, or he'd have Tommy John surgery by now... but all the other QB's on roster participated too. They didn't take up sanctioned practice time, they didn't take time away from weights, they didn't take time from film room, they all made extra time outside of those commitments to catch 10,000 passes in voluntary practice through Spring and Summer.

It obviously paid off. Look at LSU's passing game last year, and this year.

Fromm needs to lead, as a senior, his receivers into something like this through Spring and Summer. Rain or shine. Healthy or hurt. Hot or cold. Go out and get your reps, on any variety of routes, from Fromm/Bennett/Beck every single day, and catch 10,000 passes. If you drop one, or the pass is bad, it doesn't count. 100 catches a day for 100 days.

If we do this, and reel in Milton to replace Swift, we win the national championship next year.

Fromm will be too busy leading a fishing trip with Ben and Cade.

I just listened to a podcast talk about the SECCG warmups. Our receivers were dropping too many balls against no defense. Aranda was watching us warmup and the podcaster wished that he could get in his ear to hear his thoughts.

Aranda probably knew right then it would be a good night.

Fire Hankton and move Coley back to WR.

How do you know that Fromm doesn’t already do this? He seems like a hard working kid.

I'm sure they absolutely do voluntaries, in fact I know they do. But not to this level.

Joe Brady didn't sprinkle magic dust on Joe Burrow and the receivers during the offseason. Burrow and the receivers voluntarily, with guidance, did this 10,000 catch thing.

Look at their passing game last year, and this year.

The only difference is Joe Brady inserted some route tree wrinkles on a chalkboard and the players put in the time to sync up. There was no offseason for them.

Receiver rehab. I can dig it.

I've been wondering how they spent last offseason. Not that it matters now, but I wonder if downfield blocking was the primary point of emphasis for this group. Imposing their will and stuff.

Need several jcs or grad transfers at wr to insure less suckitude at the position that really has one and a half jobs, catch the damn ball and don't get called for holding.

YOu make some good points. If we were to be charitable we could make a case for the entire offensive fiasco being on this receiver situation. Inadequate receivers running the wrong routes, not getting open, dropping balls, etc cause Jake to press to much, be hesitant at other times, lose confidence etc. Cause coley to keep passing schemes, motion etc simple. Other teams sniff that out early and sell out 100% to stop our run game which the 'great wall' can't overcome. And which we can't beat with our pass game. It all comes back to receivers.

No offense though, but I don't want to hear anymore talk about a NC. We need to lower our expectations and just wait to be surprised. All those expectations generate too much pressure and toxicity. We are definitely in striking range, we just need to sit back, see if it happens and enjoy.

Won’t and shouldn’t happen.

The expectation should be national title or bust every year. Anything less breeds mediocrity.

Kirby must make major changes on O this offseason, or else we will decline rapidly, beginning next year.

That’s fine but it would be nice if we didn’t lose our collective minds when we lose a game and call our players shite and garbage...and want to fire all the coaches.

I remember going to the Belk Bowl and Shrieveport. We made it to ATL twice in 10 years before Smart showed up. Now we’ve been in one Natty and two Sugar bowls and people want to burn Butts Mehre to the ground. It’s really a bad look.

39 years. No titles. That’s the only streak that matters. Win at the highest level regardless of the cost. That should be the mentality of all associated with the program.

If this doesn't get you banned from here, I really don't think anything will.

Seriously, read that back to yourself, really slowly.

Naw, just ignore me. I have alot of work emails back and forth with UK (England/Ireland) and they have a way of typing that was similar to the way you worded things in your last post.

Smarts been HC for 4 years. This is the first year where the problems with the offense are big enough to actually require some changes. Nobody wants to fix this more than Smart I can assure you.

We don’t have the best team in the country this year. We all knew it about a qtr of the way in...but we managed to finish the reg season at 11-1. Guess who didn’t do that....everybody else in the conference not named LSU.
