Kirby has handled the QB's okay, so far.

Fromm was a good game manager in 2017, better than could have been expected from a freshman. But we needed more in 2018 and Jake needed to make a great mental jump to compensate for his limited physical skills. Kirby gave Fromm a chance to prove he's moving forward to a championship level, and after 7 games the answer is negative.
It's been handled fine so far, IMO, but now Kirby has to make the best move for UGA's future, not Jake Fromm's future. This 2018 team is not a championship team with Jake Fromm as QB, so you start looking forward. Monday afternoon, hand the football to the kid with much greater upside and take our lumps with another freshman for the remainder of this season. It will pay dividends next year. It's unfortunate for Jake, but the window of opportunity was short and he didn't get it done.

Agreed! I wouldn't hold your breath though. If that performance is not enough to get Smart to bench Fromm, nothing will.

Can’t say I disagree. In fact maybe he should have pulled a Saban and stuck Fields in there to start the second half. I love Jake but it was clear that today was not his day.

Saban didn't make that choice in game 7. He made it in game 15 after Tua had spring, summer, all season and bowl practice. There was nothing to lose at that point if Tua flamed out you just comeback in the spring with a QB competition. If you do that here and Justin flames out you risk losing both QBs confidence in the middle of the season.

I thought Fields would get the nod on the last drive of the first half and then thought for sure he would start the second half.

I think then handling up until today was acceptable, though ultra conservative.
Kirby fricked up today though. Fromm stunk it up from wire to wire. His receivers were visibly frustrated that they were getting open and he couldn't get them the ball.
There is now a full blown controversy, and inevitably, lines will start to get drawn amongst the team.
A big part of Kirby's coaching style is about intensity and competition and letting the best players play.
We don't know for a fact that's Fields is the better QB at this point, but we sure as hell know that Fromm is not getting it done. Kirby lost a tremendous amount of credibility with me today because he refused to pull Jake. How he handles the next two weeks will determine if he maintains credibility with his own team.

I hate the way Fields has been subbed in over the last few games. Almost always a read option or a QB draw on 1st or 2nd down, only to bring Fromm right back into the game on an obvious passing situation.
It's so predictable.
It's so predictable.

It’s utter BS is what it is. Give the kid some full series of downs.

It's degrading to the kid in my opinion. Fields is not and has never been an option/wildcat QB, but he is now being cast as that because of bizarro coaching decisions.
Don't want to hyperbolize, but how kirby handles this between now and the first series in Jax will define his career and have huge ramifications on our recruiting for years to come.

I agree with this post. Hate it for Fromm, because I actually like him and think he's represented the team well and had some really good moments, but today made it perfectly clear: he's not the guy.
He has horrible pocket presence, decision-making and downfield accuracy. It hasn't gotten even a little bit better than he was in his first career start, and that shows me a mentally limited player with a pitifully low ceiling.
Maybe if we let Fields have the reins it would be a complete disaster. I don't know, but I've reached a point of frustration with this team that makes me ready to just put him in and let's find out. If Fields sucks and can't lead the offense, then so be it, but at least we'll know and won't feel like we're being cheated out of potentially being a better offensive football team.

See the example of Tua coming on in the NC last year. He struggled out of the gate, threw a pick even, but worked through it and hasn't looked back because his CEILING was always higher than Jalen.
The cause for hesitation is centered around worry that someone like Fields might have a lower FLOOR than someone like Jake, but a day like today shows me that it is worth the risk.

Success breeds arrogance which leads to stubborn obstinancy (not just in coaching.) It sometimes
takes failure to effect change...having said that, our changing QBs going into Jacksonville in the recent past has been fraught with regret...i'd be lying if I said it didn't make me at least alittle nervous...jake will probably start but my money is on is a more definitive plan for #1 going forward...

I haven't seen anything out of Kirby Smart in three seasons to indicate that he will reflect on his mistakes and make changes. He is arrogant to a fault. Much of his strength as a coach comes from that fact, but it is also the source of some of his fatal flaws.
I fear that we will roll into Jax with Fromm starting, players rotating constantly, and "the plan being no plan".
I'm not sure what happens after that, but we are flirting with disaster.
