McKeesport, Pa., running back Kemon Spell – a five-star rated recruit – recently confirmed to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he will make $1 million in his first season at Georgia in 2027. And that, apparently, was not even his best offer.
“I could’ve gotten more money from other places, but I picked Georgia for the reasons that I want to get to the NFL and I’ll be coached by the best guy [Kirby Smart] each and every day,” Spell told the newspaper. “He’s going to be on me and coach me hard. I didn’t pick Georgia for the money. I picked it for the development piece and getting to the NFL.”
Hopefully he's here next season.

If he didn't pick UGA for the money, why not give it back?

So basically NFL league-minimum as the #1 prospect in the country at his position.
If he earns every penny of it and doesn't drive fast cars, then great. But expectations and eyes are going to be on him with money like that. Before NIL I didn't place huge expectations or talk shite about our players. But now that they are getting paid like this, I don't have a problem with it.

I refuse to having a verbal comimit from the highest rated running back to come out of hight school in the last 15 years put me in a negative headspace.

He is shopping. He won't be here for long.

It's exceedingly rare to find kids who bleed red & black like Nick Chubb set their sights on UGA and lock in. It's even more rare to have guys from out of state do it. Michel, Cook, Swift all did, but that was in another era of CFB that is sadly past us, now.

At this point a guy can change schools:
After verbal
After signing
After joining team
After playing a year
After playing 2, 3, and 4 years
After attempting to go pro
After going pro
Quicktrip has more employee control than D1 schools at the moment.
They are employees now given they get paid and don’t actually (most of them) go to class.
Remember when a kid had to actually qualify to get into school? When was the last time a kid didn’t qualify?

just out of curiosity what do you base that on?
It SOUNDS like he's saying all the right things and seems completely locked in with UGA, for all the reasons he mentioned. Compare that to someone like raiola where even if he was "committed" you could just tell it could change at a moment's notice.

The biggest thing is why did he mention how much he got in the first place? And, by doing so, how will that affect the locker room? That's shite you keep to yourself unless you are either bragging or looking for a bigger bite. Take your pick.

Between that approach and his refusal to put himself on the line to win games a la Aaron Murray & Stet, those were Carson Beck's two greatest sins.

I know if I was 17 or 18 and given a million bucks id sure as shite be bragging lol.
If he was simply looking for more that's something he EASILY could do on his own not in public view.

He's putting it out there and setting a precedence that everything is not all just about money but it's also about who's going to prepare you the most for the next level that's how I took it. I didn't take it as him shopping around for a higher offer but more of just making it known I could have got more money but it wasn't about that plain and simple.

You are basing that on your own assumptions.
There are a lot of well connected individuals that would be shocked if he flipped to any other school.

Name one player on our team that has said publicly how much he made. That alone speaks volumes.

That may be true. Still, I have NEVER heard a player say I'm getting $$$$. Shopping.

We've heard that one before. Many times. Honestly, it might not be a bad idea for Kirby to tell him to pound sand.

Meh, kid probably thinks he’s repping uga a little bit by saying they’ll pay a lot, but the benefits of playing under Kirby are better than top dollar from a worse coach for your career.
If that’s his angle then props to him. I say pound sand if he jumps last minute to a Miami or Ohio state or something.

Now, what do you think Kirby said about that? He's the only one who ever has done something like that. There is a reason. That's not great for the locker room, nor the team. Pound sand.

I think you’re reading way too much into this. I agree about the fear of being burned as we have over and over, but this kid and this situation feels different.

I'm not debating whether it was uncouth or irresponsible. I'm arguing that his comments don't hint at all that he's shopping around and only verbalized that in an attempt to get more from elsewhere.
I'm 1000% certain that if he wanted a lot more money than what we're offering he could do it easily without going to the media about it.
