That’s because Mathis wouldn’t sniff playing time in any other year in Georgia history. Even 2015. Even 2009. We’ve NEVER asked a 3-star QB to start in his first year. Hutson Mason was serviceable as a 5th year senior but I guarantee you he would’ve been as bad as Mathis as a true freshman.
Every QB we’ve started as a frosh has been a 5-star coming in. Eason, Murray, Fromm, Stafford.

If I’m Beck I want on the field because it’s only going to get harder next year with Daniels and BVG competing. However, I don’t know that I’d want to burn a year of eligibility either wrapping up this season.
My guess is Mathis will transfer again.

Mathis looks like crap but i say start him and build the gameplan around him. See what that does.
He still hasn't played a full game in college and if you include running he's about as bad as Stetson.
You could argue it doesn't matter as he almost certainly won't be starting next season, but i think he has a better chance at it than Bennett.
Either way this season is over so whatever. Fromm gone, Fields' ghost gone, 2020 gone, covid hopefully gone - maybe we get it right in 21'.

Bennett has no ceiling. Since this season is already over (and has been since the debacle in Tuscaloosa), I'd rather see what we have with the two shitty QBs who have upside instead of the shitty QB with no upside.
And don't get me wrong: I want Mathis to do well and I want to see what Daniels (if healthy and willing to play) and Beck can do. I'd be fine with letting one of them start going forward at this point and throwing in Bennett if things start spiraling, but this isn't about my personal opinion. It's about the safest moves for the coaches to win games to delight the boosters and keep their contract; it's about the safe play to win games.
It's not my job that's on the line so I can say whatever I want. There's no accountability for me. CKS isn't trying to take unreasonable risks when he knows what he sees on the field every day in practice and on Saturdays.
