otherwise requesting reinstatement after 2 weeks doesn't make sense. No way NCAA will let someone admit to taking $3k+ over multiple years and only give them 2 weeks.

I feel very confident that UGA didn't really expect a two week punishment. We were not oblivious to, or witholding, information about the sum of money involved. Almost no way that number changed from $400 to $3000 over the weekend, Seth Emerson's implication notwithstanding. Once again, I highly doubt the NCAA would praise UGA for understating the amount by a factor of seven.

I especially like this hypocritical stance by the NCAA

quote:

Hey, it would be hard to fit the work in anyway with the 40 hours of community service and maximum of “20 hours” he’s allowed to practice per week along with the “student” portion of “student-athlete” the NCAA is always boasting about.

I disagree. When Richt etc says they are hopeful he will play vs Florida, it's not a stretch to assume they applied for reinstatement with time served for a 2 game suspension.

I hear he is going to serve the community service part by tutoring some students at some class at UNC.

How in God's name is he out of shape. It's not like a severe ankle injury where he can't run he has be practicing the whole time. What this year has shown you out off shape? Was it the 208 yards vs Tenn, the 100 yard KO or the multiple 50+ 4th quarter TD runs this year? Jesus fricking Christ we have the dumbest fan base in sports.

Yep, we don't know how much information UGA reps shared with the NCAA but it does appear we did not present full disclosure and the NCAA asked for more info that led to a more lengthy suspension. In other words it looks like UGA did not provide complete information hoping the NCAA would accept what was presented and the UGA self-imposed 2 game suspension. The NCAA then proceeded to call our bluff.

Big difference between hopeful and confident. If UGA had submitted a lower number than the final $3000 stated by the NCAA, they would have treated that as a lie by either UGA or Todd Gurley. The last player I can recall lying to the NCAA (about a dinner with a potential representative for an agent) was Dez Bryant. He was suspended for the remainder of the season.

It seems highly improbable that UGA submitted documents that didn't reveal the full amount, and then when the NCAA asked said, "Oh, yeah, Todd forgot about the other $2600."

I feel highly confident that everything you just said is complete bullshite. If that's worthy of a ban, so be it.

I'm happy we finally have an outcome.

Now we can concentrate on football knowing exactly who we have and when.

More shocked than anything. I guess I'm just a dumb south Georgia boy but for the life of me I can't figure out why we ask for reinstatement after two games if we had been working so closely with the NCAA and knew what had been done and it would be at least 4. Why did we keep saying "I don't know" when really I think we did know? Unless this is all a ploy by UGA and the NCAA where we ask for reinstatement, they add two games, we appeal, they say "Well, because you were upfront and honest, we will make it two". Yes, that must be it!

Yea I already said that I absolutely don't think UGA purposefully withheld info to try and get off easier.

And no way would UGA have been hopeful or confident to only get 2 games for $3k. Either way, we will probably never know so no use beating it to death.

In a ruling (legal, financial or otherwise ) that involves this much information, it's very common for the parties involved to ask for more. I don't think UGA withheld anything that was relevant. The NCAA asked a question and we responded, but there's little reason to believe that changed the outcome.

As for the other question asked above about why we would request reinstatement after two weeks, why not? The fans were clamoring for action, the players were distracted by the ongoing drama. Once we had full information, no reason to wait. Better to get the paperwork in and move forward. I'm glad we did.

Well, yes. He was a witness who claimed that he paid Gurley. Once that happened, the whole thing was going to end up in an NCAA investigation and we have no idea exactly what evidence was obtained beyond an email. I assume we looked at everything, just as the NCAA did, and it became apparent that Gurley got paid.

Short of an audio or video tape and maybe a check written out to TG (I doubt he's that stupid)

There's NOTHING more than hearsay from a very sleazy witness.Once again,no real evidence until TG fesses up.

New song, just out:

Young man, if you play college ball
I said, young man, if you play in fall.
I said, young man, if you want it all
There's no need follow the rules.

Young man, you can rape that young lass.
I said, young man, you can pound that young arse.
You can do her, and I'm sure you will find
Many ways to have a good time.

Just lie to the NCAA.
Just lie to the NCAA.

They have no way to enforce their own rules,
You can ganster out with all the boys ...

Just lie to the NCAA.
Just lie to the NCAA.

If you like seafood, you can steal a good meal,
You can do whatever you feel...

Young man, are you listening to me?
I said, young man, take whatever you see?
I said, young man, you can make real your dreams.
But you got to know this one thing!

No man should profit from his own name.
I said, young man, don’t you dare sign anything,
And if do, don’t tell the NCAA.
Truth is just not the way.

Truth gets you screwed at the NCAA.
Truth gets you screwed at the NCAA.

They have all the money for themselves to enjoy,
You can starve and they don’t care...

Truth gets you screwed at the NCAA.
Truth gets you screwed at the NCAA.

You can jump on a table, and scream obscenities,
You can do whatever you feel ...

Young man, the moral is to always lie.
I said, young man, act as if you may cry.
Take the money, and put it in your shoe.
And if you’re a real thug go to FSU ...

So remember, you can rape cheat and steal,
And said, young man, you can take any pill.
Just don’t admit it to the NCAA.
And you will still get toooo play.

F ri C K the NCAA.
F ri C K The NCAA.

Other witnessess, other brokers, bank accounts, videotapes, recordings, ledger entries, etc. You have no idea what kinds of evidence was out there, and neither did UGA (until we did a full investigation) or possibly even Todd Gurley for that matter. We don't know what was presented to UGA or the NCAA, but we do know that the case ended up being ironclad in the end. That makes the penalty phase of this a fairly likely outcome. If Gurley confessed, it was probably a good decision because he could have done a lot more damage to his credibility by being caught in a lie.

I too am glad we did. I just don't understand the timing. I know what we hope to gain by the appeal, but I would like anyone who can to tell me how this works. Certainly we hope they will reduce the number of games. Why would they do that?

We gained closure and the end of a massive distraction. This case is resolved and that's a plus as far as UGA is concerned. Once we gathered the facts, there was no good reason to wait.

You actually think the NCAA even wanted to get involved? After all the bad publicity they've received?

Good God,they did absolutely nothing to FSU or A&M after they had their own "investigations"

Don't you think for 1 SECOND they could find all sorts of "evidence" on JFF and Winston if they really wanted to?
