I think the disagreement is on whether this is a minor issue. Missing on chunk plays when they are there is a major issue, imo.

Hit 2/3 of the balls to Herrien, Pickens, and DRob on Saturday, and that game is a blowout.

The supporting cast is only as effective as the QB. Randy Moss and Calvin Johnson would not have been very productive with Mitch Trubisky throwing them the ball.

Missing wide open touchdown passes is not a minor issue. It's a major issue and it was the biggest issue against A&M. There is no defending that.

We did Saturday, and Fromm missed them. We didn't against ND.

He's been more than that in '17 and '18.
2 of the 3 highest QBR's in UGA history and I highly doubt we get to the NC without em in '17.

We also don't win the UF game without em this year.

quote:

If you don't believe me look at his stats.
Stats are great this year but aren't really that bad.Still top 20 in
QBR and still only 3 pics (only one was on him) Obviously the last 3 games haven't been good at all and he's not the same QB as he was last year for whatever reason.

We put em in every position possible for him to succeed vs A&M and he flat out failed.Coley called multiple passes on 1st
down.He called slants,flea-flickers,wheel routes, screens, etc There's still some WR issues but Fromm was still missing these guys when they did get separation.

Watch 'em last year vs Bama.As someone mentioned earlier,he was throwing dimes and hitting guys in stride in long crossing paterns. He absolutely looked like
a 1st TD pick and outplayed a somewhat banged up Tua.

He's lost his confidence this year and seems to be playing scared and I think him and the coaching staff are relying way too much on the defense and Rodrigo to bail em out.

There's no struggle. He has missed several throws, but that is a minor issue compared to the overall dysfunction in our offense, which you and others like you fail to see. This gets back to the critical thinking I was mentioning. You'd rather pin the entirety of our offensive woes on the QB than realize that he's only as effective as his supporting cast. Ironically, you condemn me for being too biased towards Fromm when I'm looking at the entire offense while you are focused entirely on Fromm.

Again, I am not talking about the “overall dysfunction in our offense”, or the “entirety of our offensive woes”, so the struggle continues by you going back to that twice in one response.

I am only talking about the missed open td passes, of which there have been too many in our past 4 games. This is a major issue, not a minor one. How can you say a missed td is minor? That’s pure nonsense.

Fromm needs to get this right if we don’t want to get embarrassed by LSU again. He missed 2 td passes against LSU last year to hardman, and we know that can’t be blamed on hardmans talent or experience.

The only person who doesn't value critical thinking is you apparently. No one has anything against Fromm nor do we expect him to be perfect. He is a game manger QB, or at least he's supposed to be. Fromm has been carried by Deandre Swift and the defense. If you don't believe me look at his stats.
His stats the past two years are indicative of the type of offense we run. You say he's been "carried" by Swift and our defense and I say Swift and our defense (as well as Fromm) have worked together to be successful based on the style of football our coaches want to play.

Where we've fallen down this year compared to the previous two is that we have an entirely new crop of receivers starting for us (outside of Simmons, who has been more of a liability than an asset for most of the season) who aren't as polished as we've been used to. Fromm has been praised by a lot of knowledgeable football analysts over the years for his ability to make "NFL-caliber" throws, such as that one TD pass against Bama last year in the SECCG. He's a "game manager" because that's the role he's been asked to play. He wasn't one in high school and he doesn't play like one in our 2-minute offense. He does what he's asked to do within the confines of the offense he's asked to manage. No type of QB that consistently utilizes the forward pass is going to be very successful without a good group of players around him.

Not so much this year, especially the last few games.

Holy shite you're dumb. Watching Fromm badly overthrow TD passes with my own two eyes is totally different than leftists making shite up to try and justify hating Trump.
Complain about the plays with a wet ball on Saturday all you like, but it's short-sighted and not indicative of his play all season, nor does it address the overall offensive problems we've had. That's what I'm trying to address: the foaming at the mouth to throw Fromm under the bus without a desire to look at the root causes for why our offense is performing as it is. It's emotive rather than rational.

I realize that you know what is going on.

I have been trying to tell people that it isn't JUST Fromm's fault. Not just Coley's fault. Not just our R's fault. (Although, I would be willing to bet the lions share falls on the experience of our wrs)

For whatever reason our fans want to zeo in on one thing and place the blame. FIRE Coley!
From is regressing! etc.

They don't seem to understand that is more than just one thing causing our offensive problems. One thing exacerbates the others. And yes, I would even give the weather it's share of credit Saturday.

Which leads to another dumb argument. Both teams were playing in the rain!
As if every player is affected the same by different weather conditions. We can go on and on. I just get tired of our fan base sometimes...but I know the other fan bases are the same.

There are a lot of moving parts with both offenses and defenses.

He needs to figure that shite out if he wants to play professionally. A high percentage of pro games are played in bad northeastern and midwestern weather.

So we need a perfect storm receiving corp of highly experienced and talented WRs for our 3-year starter QB to be productive?
Without a solid group of receivers, we are a one-dimensional team. So yes, we need to have all elements on offense accounted for. Tom Brady isn't going to have much success throwing the ball to players who can't get open and can't come down with contested balls consistently. Fromm being a 3rd year starter doesn't matter if he doesn't have help.

quote:

That seems unreasonable, tbh. There aren’t 10 QBs nationally in a more advantageous situation than Jake Fromm when you look at UGA’s OL, tailback, and raw talent out wide.
Raw talent out wide isn't going to do the trick if it isn't consistent. While we do throw occasionally on 1st and 2nd downs, our bread and butter has been run-run-pass. There's a reason why so many have complained about that combination of play calling this season. It sets us up for a lot of 3rd down passing plays, and if our raw and talented players can't get open consistently and can't out leverage defenders consistently and can't catch the balls consistently, we're going to struggle offensively, which we have.

Having a great OL and tailback is better than a lot of teams, but unless we're getting 5 yards a carry running the ball, it doesn't mean much; we're still going to struggle.

People should just realize that there is a lot going on Never mind that a coordinator is trying to get the right plays in. The QB is trying to make the throw. The WRs are trying to make the catches. And so on.

O n the plus side, I am seeing massive improvements with Fromm to Pickens, and of course Fromm to Cager has been a good thing most iof the year.

The one that puzzles me is Fromm to Robertson. Being an experienced WR, Robertson should be seeing more passes, but he seldom does and is seldom open.

When James Cook is wide open Fromm seems to look right past him...then Cook needs to be physically placed into position for basic plays like he doesn't have a clue what his responsibilities are.

Those trouble me more than just about anything else.
And yes...I agree that we do try to run the ball straight up the middle too much.

It's all about context. If our offense was more productive, we wouldn't need to rely on 3 plays out of an entire game. You can play the what-if game all day long with every play, as well The point is that our offense is dysfunctional and we shouldn't be relying on a handful of low-percentage throws each game to pad our stats. We should have longer, methodical drives where we pick up first downs and have an occasional explosive play to keep the defense on their heels.

You and others seem to be hung up on the first half of the A&M game. Even though the weather was bad, I'll ignore that for now and blame everything in that game 100% on Fromm. Satisfied?

Now let's talk about the season as a whole. Fromm hasn't been very different this season than last season in terms of his throws and progressions. We're running mostly the same plays to the sidelines as we have previously, yet with not as much success outside of Cager. Why is that? Is it more likely that our experienced QB who excels at those throws has regressed all by himself, or that we've had a complete turnover in our wide outs that aren't quite at the level we've had in seasons past?

So hopefully you understand why so many are frustrated when everything works on a play, but the qb can’t make the throw.

Fromm has missed 2 td passes to him this month.

I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. Donald Trump is a loathsome scum without a single redeeming quality. There are a million reasons to despise that bastard.

Jake Fromm on the other hand is a great young man and leader with a terrific work ethic. He's just not nearly as good as many of his fans want people to think and that doesn't make him immune from criticism. He's also not a politician or the president, so the comparison doesn't hold.

You act like this is the only time he has stunk the joint up. The simple fact is if he had made the two throws for the TDs in the first quarter, this game would have been a blowout and would not have come down to the fourth quarter as it did.

This is likely why we are talking past each other. I'm talking about the season and our supporting cast as a whole and you want to focus on a handful of plays, blaming our entire lack of success on offense on those. That's what I'm talking about in terms of lack of critical thinking or short-sightedness.

quote:

I am only talking about the missed open td passes, of which there have been too many in our past 4 games. This is a major issue, not a minor one. How can you say a missed td is minor? That’s pure nonsense.
He's missed on some of those and he's hit some of those. What I'm getting at, and as I said in a response just a minute ago, is that our offense isn't built on 50-yard bombs. We are a grinding football team that occasionally sets up a PA pass for a big gain. We shouldn't be relying on a couple of errant throws a game. It's not like we put up 40 points a game with a couple of bad throws. We struggle to move the ball. Period. That's a much bigger concern to me than missing some 40-yard throws by a few inches, as disappointing as they are.

quote:

Fromm needs to get this right if we don’t want to get embarrassed by LSU again. He missed 2 td passes against LSU last year to hardman, and we know that can’t be blamed on hardmans talent or experience.
You can call out outliers all day. Fields had a few of those the other day and he's had those all season. You just don't focus on those because his offense has general success moving the ball so his misses can be ignored by the hits. Our offense is struggling mightily right now, which is why Fromm's misses are standing out so much and why no one cares about the great throws he does make.
