Was the Glen Mason fiasco between Goff and Donnan?

Had completely forgotten about it till now.

Mason was coach for a day. Donnan was our #2 I assume.

I always assumed it was a combination of things, mainly thought that he and his family fell in love with Athens and didn't want to leave, and also that there was fire to the smoke of shite going down within the program which maybe made him untouchable to other universities.

I was afraid we would hop on that same carousel of shite by firing a 10 win/season HC.

I get that. You fire a 10 win coach, where does it stop? What are you saying about the expectation that will attract/detract others to/from the job? Are supporters of the program just delusional expecting UGA to compete for the NC way to often?

Sometimes programs spiral after removing a solid coach that falls just short of the greatness, because the vision outsized the capability.

In hindsight, I very well believe that UGA could have spiralled with the wrong hire. But, goddamn it, I was certainly eager to find out, lol.

I was on the fence. I thought CMR was burnt out and we needed a change, but I also wanted the entire staff fired in 2016 after losing to Vandy and GT. Guess it’s a good thing I ain’t in charge.

I guess we all can be a bit "fanatical" at times.

I was neutral on the Smart hire because he was a UGA guy but had no HC experience…but I was just happy for CMR to go. The “10 games a year” comment we heard over and over was bullshite when you looked at the last 5 years of his tenure and it didn’t matter anyway if the 1 or 2 games you lose are the ones you need to actually win anything.

The best though we’re the contingent of fans that wanted Pruitt instead of CKS for HC. That would’ve been a fricking disaster.

I don’t think any of the coaches on the hot list back then have done anything of note. Have to hand it to the PTB for grabbing Smart.

I was ecstatic with the Smart hire. But then, I was solidly in the "anyone but Richt" camp. I had been vocal about firing his arse and hiring Leach for a good amount of years.

I was roasted for that, every time.

The reality is that I would only say Leach because you would inevitably get the whole "well who do you replace Richt with?" and Leach was a great coach that won with less everywhere he went. I didn't really care if it was Leach but I'd just throw it out.

And, hell, I may have said Herman at one time or another. The whole argument was dumb. It wasn't about the who, it was more about what do we want? Do we want to stay stagnant, happy with 9.6 wins a year, or do we want to hop in the ship and aim for the stars?

I was the latter.

That sounds like Auburn, Tennessee, and Florida.

And that was exactly the argument used against firing Mark Richt.

Not really.

But you dngas who was next.
Thus the Tennessee, auburn, and Florida reference.

These are your own sentiments. Words matter.

I wanted him or that guy who went to Virginia Tech.

Fuente. I had to look him up because I already forgot his name.

I tried to find the thread where Kirby was announced as coach but this janky-arse website only goes back so far.

Yes really. Almost to a man on the Rant, throughout the years.

True. Partially. I didn't want CHD as our next coach. Or SBJ. Or anyone from the Rant. Or anyone without coaching experience at the collegiate level at a major player in the Power 5.

You know. DNGAS within parameters, but you know that, I suppose.

Nobody wants me choosing the next coach anyway. I'll do it, though, for a salary.

Not fair. They probably gave a shite who the next coach was. Well, Tennessee never does. So, maybe fair?

More or less. And I stand by the claim, even if the record no longer exists. The vast majority of people claimed that we'd be the next Tennessee, etc should we have fired Richt.

Didn't happen, even though in 2016 I'd wager that a lot of you thought that we had fricked up.

Reading through, and I just saw the 1st Eason post. I remember the wails and gnashing of the teeth that we would lose him because we were dumb enough to fire Richt.

NGL, I didn't want to lose Eason. Turns out, we did lose him anyway, not that anyone cared at that point
