Has a team ever thrown a game?

For example, knowing that we need UT or Arky to beat mizzou, has a team ever said "we are just not gonna play as hard so they can't make it to the championships?" Just an odd thought...

Tn and arky trying to be bowl eligible so no chance of letting up. Ive never seen a football team do it that i recall. I wish the falcons would lay down andmove up in the draft.

There are billions of dollars bet on sporting events. Fixing games isn't exactly a rarity in any sport, though the bigger the team involved (in terms of number of players in the game at one time) the harder it is to do - generally.

bowl money and that fact that neither team has been to one lately is definitely going to preclude either one of those teams from not giving their best. Honestly, with the Gurley news, I am fine if UGA goes. I am fine if they don't. Just too bitter today to care one way or another.

Interesting article. It was all just a thought that crossed my mind. I was just wondering if a team hated another, as Tenn does GA, and if they had a chance to ruin any hopes, would they do something like throwing a game?
