So long as it's not Penn Wagers or Hubert Williams, I won't give the zebras a second thought.

Me either. Calls most always even out over the course of a game.

It's really not good for them. We want to get the ball to the man that our defense allows. We do this by taking the edge away with our DB our OLB's, this forces the ball inside to the SEC's two leading tacklers to gobble up. Depending on how we line up, where the stunt and techs are, will force the ball in one direction. Hopefully Grantham can force them to go where we want them to Saturday. If not, we really could be screwed.
If you look at the X's and O's, what matters to PJ is what's between his QB's ears. He has a west coast style job interview questionnaire, he asks every potential QB in his system. Really, whoever answers the questions best, gets the job. Just like a BS survey you take when applying for a job online these days. That's how he finds his QB. Anyway, we have to force Vad to hand the ball off every time. If we stack the play side edge, he will have to go inside. This is where our big fellas can help. With our unbalanced D-Line, we can minimize our interior gaps and press them in the backfield. It's really not complicated. CTG's Defense is too complicated.

I'm not saying it's great.. I'm saying it's fhe best scenario.. I've watched enuff GT football to know that blowing up the first read effects the whole process.. I'd much rather give Herrera & Wilson their tackles in exchange for 2 & 3 yard gains rather than watch the entire O break down, 3 and out.. If GT is overmatched, they are overmatched... We'll take the b-back play in those scenario's and play smart until opportunity presents itself.. I see it as Grantham playing safe & CPJ taking what he can get.. I think we'll be in a 3 to 4 yard mode and both coaches will be happy.

It's a good thing y'all are a tech school, because it seems necessary to decode the offense. It's a wonder someone there didn't come up with CTG's trigonometric function-based defense first.

to keep the numbers equal, the backside LB or Backside Safety has to make the play on the playside. However, in order to do that, defenses really ask for a counter option, counter trap, or just a counter motion.
This is where our discipline, or lack thereof, has the potential to be disastrous. The success of the counters/cutbacks will be a tough test for Wilson, who tends to play much more instinctively.
IMO the fact that Herrera is heads and shoulders above where Wilson is in terms of field awareness, shedding blocks, and finishing the play should be enough to prevent disaster from striking.

instinctive player vs the proper-you-know-where-they-will-be player ... I think ya need like 8 of one & 3 of the other. maybe Floyd could do a lot damage.. But I do not know if he fits the mold or if he's a pass rusher?.. I'm trying to figure out who the guy is who is gonna be the off the chain and flying around player

If Floyd doesn't get you, JHC will. If you spot them both and run away, that's when Garrison Smith or the Pastor of Disaster (Drew) get the blindside sack.

Who is the smallerish guy in the secondary that can come up and hit?
Or is every player basically the same guy? Floyd, Clemmons, Sterling Bailey, Jenkins...

Smallish guys in the secondary that hit? it's football. everyone in the secondary is smallish compared to Chris Mayes.
We've got some thumpers. JHC you know. Matthews is learning. Swann and Moore have been coming on strong. Wiggins is a step forward attacking cb. I'm not certain how physical he is on stalk blocks, but he blows by them often with quickness and anticipation.

Grantham does change it up. it's more blitzes than changing schemes and personnel.
We usually attack you guys in the 3-4 (basically, it's the old 5-2 front). Our big 3-4 DEs are often in 5 technique. And their job is to crash down the line hard. They essentially try to eliminate the B gap and have a chance at a slow developing play in the A gap at the same time. With 3 guys, we are trying to cluster-F everything between the tackles.
From there, Grantham tries to string plays out wide and use the sideline as the 12th defender. having the OLBs clean to penetrate and force the quick pitch, it essentially makes the play either a dive to the B Back or a sweep (pitch to your A Back). Once the ball is pitched, you are out of options and the defense can swarm.
The quicker we can disrupt the timing and more we can force the qb to make a motion with the ball, the more fumbles and negative plays we will get against an offense that doesn't do well with them.

Look at the playbook. Our db's and safeties will dictate our defense. They determine where the ball goes against Tech's scheme. With our safeties, we have an advantage in the run game, not pass. Let JHC dictate where the play goes and he will take care of business. D-Lime has to control gaps like they did last week and our D will be fine. We are worrying about the wrong thing. Our offense is the key. GT has a great run D, there is no denying that. Mason and Gurley will make or break us on the score board. Period. This game isn't on CTG. On Bobo!

I think if you're worried about the offense under HM14, then to me, you're barking up the wrong tree. Inconsistent OL play will get us into far more trouble and faster than anything he can do.

It's an option. They aren't reading the db's and safeties.
The beauty of what johnson does is he changes up the blocking schemes. It f's up with assignment football when the guy who is responsible for the pitchman is cut down 20 yards away.
Our success is often dependent on the db's and safeties.
But they don't determine where the ball goes. That is up to our front 5.
Fortunately for us, a big mamma jamma in the middle like Chris Mayes wins battles against the dive making allowing us to dictate where the ball flows with our ILBS and OLBs.

Man is actually common on the outside in option defense.

Floyd is definitely a guy who will be out there flying around the ball, also I would watch for Sterling Bailey to have a big afternoon.

They are going to double Mayes. That means his knees are clean. If they run a speed option to the outside, they will absolutely cut him. But he still did his job dictating the middle.
