Never noticed him. Probably some guy working on the roof.

It has a decorative cover that provides shade. The deck was unusable last summer because of the heat and lack of shade. As the weather warms and the cover comes back out, and the deck is all finished, you'll see....

I take the cover off when not in use so it doesn't mildew like you see on the rest of the siding on that side of the house, and so storms don't carry it off to Walton County.

I'll put you down for "Keep" then.

You're fighting an uphill battle though. So far, of all the votes cast in the pergula referendum, there's literally twice as many "Get rid" votes as "Keep" votes.

Those voters are uneducated and should abstain. They haven’t sat on my deck in the summer with no cover.

If they want to offer alternatives, Im open to suggestions.

My original thought was exactly what you just wrote - shade with a leafy vine thing.

However, you've noted that same side of your house is sans sun hence the grass problem.

Geometry of house and angle of sun. I can draw something up on visio at work tomorrow to show you.

No need.

I vote to keep it. I like it aesthetically plus it does offer the benefit of shade if your wife is successful with her plants.

What did the Mexican tell you when you asked him why he's decking your home incorrectly?

Also. Pro Tip:

Take your garden variety garden sprayer and mix a diluted bleach and water solution. Keep it easy on the bleach or it'll dry your siding.

Spray that on the mildew and hose off. Easy. Just be careful with the bleach.

Eta.
Better to uncompensate on the bleach and use a brush and elbow grease to get it off than to dry out your vinyl siding (from flawed memory).

I have 2 questions for you professionally. Not sure if you can answer. I know you have data center experience.

My questions are:
1)Other than Turner and Whiting-Turner who are the main builders of data centers?
2) My understanding is there are clusters of them (e.g. NO. VA.) is that correct and where are they?

In brief-

I have a couple of these ready to go, luckily my outside spigots bypass the PRV so I have ridiculous water pressure to get the hose up on the highest parts of the house. Getting all the mildew off is in the pipeline.

I haven't asked the Mexicans anything because they haven't been back yet.

The pergola has a cover that goes over it, the vines would be decorative only. The actual shade is provided by the cover that goes over it, a shade-clothe but fancy.

Data centers are built in clusters because they need to be around fiber optic exchanges. Those tend to run along railroads. Construction of data centers isn't rocket science, although many in the business of building them act like it is.

If I were building one around ATL, I would hire McKenney's for their engineering, PM, and good hands to handle the mechanical. I would hire Allison Smith to do all the electrical, UPS, and generators. I would hire a PM from KPMG to oversee the whole operation, with PMO support to get the telco carriers into my building with divergent paths, and zero-hop connectivity to Azure and Amazon Cloud. I would build a satellite antennae on the roof and sign contracts on a consignment basis for a service I could offer customers in the event of a fire sale. I don't have an ace in the hole for physical security, they are all shitty. And I'd make sure I have an adequate loading dock with a hydraulic lift and a decent amount of warehouse space. Data centers can make more money in their warehouse than on the white space. I could go on. I've already typed too much. You should start a data center thread. It's the off season.

Didn't realize PB was in fire protection. Interesting.

You mentioned all of the engineers and subcontractors that you'd use but are there regional general contractors that you know in the area that build DCs?

I'm not in the business of building them. I'm in the business of maintaining the ones my employer owns and leasing space in ones my employer doesn't own. I am a member of the Uptime Institute.

The reason I listed off subs is because that's who is actually making a data center a data center. The GC is just building a big concrete square.

Yeah, I understand the building is the easiest part, just that my clients are mostly the GCs.

Thanks tho.

Don't be too hard on the Mexicans, they're gonna have a hard enough time trying to hide their mistake.
Unless they've somehow already calculated the decking width to come out perfectly.
If they did that I'll be absolutely shocked and only ask for salt and pepper with my crow.
