Really happy to see that Brooks County coach finally win one last night btw. Dude’s been running a top flight program for a long time down there and seems like a good guy.

Sure but most of those schools either lack the resources, coaching or feeder systems of suburban, private or rural schools and many of the best athletes in those districts get recruited by better programs. When was the last time a COA public school won a state title?

Mays was the last one I remembered
playing for a state title but it's in a better area than Carver.

That coach has been at Carver for like 15 years, so I think he’s been able to institute a pretty steady program.

A lot of times, that can overcome lack of resources.

Out of curiosity, do people think that seven divisions are necessary? Is a 3A much different from a 4A school and a 6A from a 7A?

Good for him if he's doing it without hoarding athletes from the
entire city footprint like Grady HS did a few years back or like Cedar Grove does in Dekalb and Carver is in a much rougher area than either of those two schools.

Don't know about "a lot" but sometimes it can be overcome but the odds definitely aren't in their favor.

Public A final score from last night has been updated.

AA, AAAA, and AAAAAA play today. The rain should be gone by lunch so they should get the games in.

I had Carver-Atl for the spring game. That RB of theirs is a STUD! The coach is a good guy, also.

Fitzgerald is opening a can on Thomasville so far. Very surprising.

Will the 73-year wait finally be over?

How did the Fitzgerald/Ocilla greater metropolitan area get to be such a football powerhouse? Fitzgerald and Irwin County both in the state finals?

Both have been powerhouses for a while. Irwin had won back-to-back state titles before Brooks beat them last night.

Fitzgerald has been close for years, just not able to get over the hump. I think three state title game losses in the last 6 years.

Poor area loaded with athletes and great coaches.

Scores have been updated with the AA Final. Congrats to Fitzgerald as they beat Thomasville in A battle of S.GA.

Thomasville's jerseys:
Old school Chiefs vibes w/those babies.

AAAA final just got underway. Carver-Columbus vs.Benedictine

I would imagine those coaches are well compensated despite the area's poverty.

Yes.Way too many classifications.
Six should be the very maximum and that's pushing it.And do away with
The private/public deal in class A...ridiculous

They are doing away with the public/private split in 1A because of how many private schools left for GISA after the GHSA put in a 3x multiplier for out-of-district students for the FTE count.

What they did instead is split Class 1A into D1 and D2 based on population. Which is fricking stupid. Just call it 8 classifications, because that’s what it really is.

And yes, I think there are too many classes. 6 is fine. There is almost no discernible difference between a 3A and 4A school or a 5A and 6A school. A lot of schools waffle back and forth between classifications multiple times a decade.

Benedictine is handling this fog a lot better than Carver is.

And Geriner is balling.

Scores have been updated to show the AAAA final. Congrats to Benedictine. They have built a power down there in the First City.

6A final is going. Langston Hughes has an early 7-0 on the University. Hughes is one of my home schools who's games we call. This is a feather in our cap.
