Anyone catch BC’s TD catch in the Clemson game?

QB recruiting is terrible. Fields committed elsewhere before “committing” to UGA. Apparently Beck ain’t a starter who had a bad sr year in HS. If Smart was serviceable as a recruiter he’d know QB is kind of important. He has proven he doesn’t.

With Mathis we punted on 4 possessions and had 1 INT (we had 2 three and outs) and he also had Pickens available...No thanks

The team stalled because of penalties. He didn't play worse than this.

We don’t need a Fields or Lawrence

It's better to have one than not.

Jake Fromm was not great and as long as someone was pushing him in practice we could win with a QB of that caliber.

No one is winning anything significant in modern football with QB play like that.

He doesn’t have a great history of this at QB.
I disagree. He knew what he had with Fields and Fields just wasn't ready to overtake a proven commodity in Fromm in 2018 and he didn't stick around to prove he could do it in 2019. There was no reason to bench Fromm (who helped lead us to a national championship appearance in his freshman season) for another true freshman at the time. Fields left the program before he could win the position.

Our offense isn't bad. We struggled in the 2nd half against Bama and we've had 3 possessions so far today, 1 of which was really good.

So a shitty half against the team we need to beat and a 33% success rate against a team we should beat by 3 TDs just by rolling out of bed. That sounds lovely.

If you think Fromm was a better option than Fields I honestly don’t know how to have a conversation about quarterback play with you...

Kirby chose a 5th round draft pick who will likely never play a meaningful snap for the Bills over a top 3 draft pick who is going to be an NFL starter right out of the gate.

Always, always, always play the QB with more upside.

Hindsight is 20/20 but in that moment I don’t know how a coach can justify benching a QB that just led his team to the national championship game and threw for 2600 yards/24 TDs as a true frosh for a guy just on his potential.

Also you would think this would be used as ammo for negative recruiting. Basically would imply there is no job security at QB1.

ETA: also wasn’t Fromm projected as a first round pick before his junior season?

Stetson keeping a couple of those balls earlier made that play.

You're damn right there shouldn't be. If you play like Fromm did against Tennessee and LSU in 2018, you should feel uncomfortable about your job status.

When you have a QB with insane upside like Fields has, the coaching staff needs to be looking for any possible excuse to get him on the field.
