Lots of great high school quarterbacks don't pan out as great college quarterbacks. Level of competition, supporting cast on the team, simplicity of offense, all sorts of reasons some guys with big high school numbers don't become the next big college QB. Remember the name Anthony Morelli? 6-4, 230 and was on the cover of all the mags as a 5 star when he went to Penn State. He was okay at best; didn't have much impact. But there have been bigger busts...Rhett Bomar at Oklahoma, Kyle Wright at Miami...and who can forget Ryan Perilloux for LSU...or Mitch Mustain. All high school legends who never lived up to the hype in college. I see this as no different than the leap from college to NFL. Some will have great numbers in college and win championships but weaknesses get exposed at the next level and only a few develop into successful NLF QBs.
So, what you are saying is, just because a QB was kinda successful at a college, it doesn’t mean he will be successful at the next level? Or even in a better conference?

Yes .. his OL is awful.. The round 1 Tackle they got got hurt in OTAs.. the 2 bets they brought in got hurt week 2 The #3 RB is starting, because the 1 & 2 got hurt.. little difficult stretch against Browns, Packers, and Bucs… He’s played good against teams that are equal in talent
So, what your are saying is, as long as the generational talent is surrounded by equal to or greater than talent, he will be pretty good? Makes sense.

No what I’m saying, let’s see how good he is when he actually has he starters back.
BTW.. TL is 1-5 as a starter, Fields is 2-3, Zack Wilson 1-5. Jake Fromm cut from Bills only to clear waivers from 31 other teams to be picked back up as the backup to the practice squad QB for the Bills.
*** saw a post from NFL network.. Ben R has the fastest release from snap to throw 2.17 seconds. Sunday on JF 2 fumbles he was hit in 1.8 seconds and 2.0 seconds…. Needless to say , yeah his line SUCKSSSSS.

So, what your saying is the generational talent needs better NFL Players around him to make him not suck? You’d think a generational talent would be good, even if he didn’t have the best NFL talent around him. Maybe he will be good when he is surrounded by players who are much better than most teams he plays.. like at Ohio State.

Stafford still playing at a high level, Tebow transitioned to baseball then tightend, then media member.
Playing QB in the nfl is a bitch and frankily the teams just choose who they want to be the face of the franchise. Brady got lucky early on and did the most with it.
Just making the nfl as a college qb means you were one of the elite.

Agree, though you would expect more from a generational talent.

No, not at all. I - I - I just think that the, uh, his appeal is becoming more selective.

Chicago isn’t a College town anyways….

I don't know if Fields was truly a "generational talent" but one thing is certain: He appears to have more upside than Fromm, who was already cut while Fields is still a starting NFL quarterback. I would reassess in a year of further development...see how Fields is at that point, versus Fromm.
I think we can conclude that as far as their time at UGA, Kirby behaved as Kirby usually behaves - he went with the guy who was the safer bet AT THAT MOMENT rather than the guy who likely would have brought more to the table for UGA in the long run.

We have been repeatedly assured that he was. I mean, the dude was so good he didn't even need to win a National Title or a Heisman - that shite's for chumps.

It most is. See: Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Josh Allen, Justin Herbert, Matt Stafford and many others.
The elite are those who can hang on as starters in the NFL. What happens in college with total lack of parity in talent and other resources across teams is sort of meaningless.

But none of those names have been a GENERATIONAL TALENT. They are simply competent quarterbacks, not once-in-a-generation gods of the football field.
