Dawgslife is hung up on "career ending injury". He doesn't realize that there are more career ending injuries in car accidents than there are on the football field. And the car accident wouldn't insure him his losses.
Career ending injuries happen.
It's his career. his decision. Go ahead and criticize him, though. He will still be making more money than all of us put together shortly after the draft.

Georgia has had about 1400 life ending car accidents this year alone.
You do realize the reason there were more in car accidents is because more people drive than play college football, right?

Then why would he play and risk his livelihood?
Why hasn't he moved into a hermetically sealed nerf house? Virtually anything he does potentially risks his livelihood. Hell, look at how many people suffer serious injuries or death just slipping in the shower every year.

Dustin Johnson (the golfer) skipped out on a chance to play for a gold medal in the Olympics for fear of getting bit by a mosquito carrying the Zika virus. That could have negatively affected his billionaire earnings.
But, then slipped on the steps at a rental house the night before the Masters and had to withdraw with a back injury.
He was ranked #1 in the world at the time and was the overwhelming favorite to win that year.

What if players sit out games other than ones against top ten teams? I mean, where does the slope stop slipping on this one?
I would expect to see exactly that in the future. Once a guy is happy with his draft projection, he has absolutely no financial reason whatsoever to ever be anywhere near a college game or practice, and eventually, guys will start doing it.
The slope stops if/when the NFL stops being able to pay out the big contracts for rookies. Given their declining ratings, that may not be so far off in the future, but who knows.

Come on dude. You really want to make that argument? If he got into 5-6 car wrecks every time he got in the car you might have a point.
The last career ending injury in a UGA game was devon gales? 2014 or 2015?
Nate McBride lost a season to a car accident.
MoMass list a hand to an ATV accident.

But weren't you rhetorically asking "How much money is enough?"
Do you know what rhetorical means? LOL
quote:
you are criticizing him for not playing in the game?
I am criticizing him for bailing on his teammates. I wouldn't criticize him for sitting out the combine or not running a 40. But I would criticize him for a team sport that is losing a teammember due to a personal situation.
quote:
He has a right to choose what is most important for himself.
Right and you are criticizing him for doing that.
Correct. He deserves criticism. I criticized Isaiah McKenzie for leaving early even though I understood that he never was a "student athlete" and his life would be better without school. I criticize players of other schools for bailing on their teams during bowl season. They have a right to choose their path, but that doesn't come without consequences.

What does he owe his teammates?

Thy might be disappointed in his not playing, but that's okay, too

i bet none of them criticize him
Life is full of mendacity. People preach team/family/brothers. And when life offers choices, they abandon their prior mantras for self serving needs.
Maybe Baker never preached. Maybe he never had thoughts and words acknowledging the sacrifices that Chubb, Michel, Carter, Sanders made for Baker'a junior season. Maybe, his grind was always about himself.
But to reap the benefits of Dawgs before him, and them cut short 1 game is disengenuous to the program. To the players who did "buy in" to the Georgia standard and ethos.
I'm 1 opinion. You and I are different. I'm happy for the opportunity ahead of Baker. He has earned that opportunity. But he's selling his teammates short 1 game.

Google isn't hard. Ben Cleveland was hurt in a car accident this past summer.
Nate McBride lost an entire season a few years ago.
Momass lost his hand a couple of years ago just before camp.
2 years ago, 4 UGA students lost their lives. Kirby even released a statement on it.
Torrin Lawrence died at 25 years old from a car accident.
Former players: Sam mrvos, Don golden, and Joshua Willis have all died the past 15 years in car accidents.
The last career ending injury in a UGA game was Devon gales. Who was it before that and how far back would we have to go?

Interesting. My opinions seem to bother you a lot more than yours bother me.
Posted on 12/28/18 at 3:57 pm to meansonny
Okay. I guess I will just have to respect another persons decision he makes for his life, and you can continue to criticize them when they affect you in no way.

It’s the hyperventilating and the cutnpasting every sentence that bothers me.
I honestly have no idea what your opinions are on anything. Wagging your finger at people for criticizing a quitter for quitting isnt an opinion.

He would have gone in the top 5 of the draft that year. Jake Butt is another one that comes to mind.

Paid college football players. The entire model of amateur sports is shifting toward a more professional-like environment. Basketball and baseball started that shift, but it was only a matter of time before it affected football too. It's not uncommon for athletic kids to be moved around to 3 different high schools and several AAU/travel teams chasing state championships and scholarships. Kids' parents move all over different districts to get their kid in a supposedly better program. IMG is running a high school and actively recruiting the best high school players nationally with the promise of superior development and exposure. That's the amateur sports environment that a lot of UGA's players come from, so the stress on individual career aspirations isn't exactly surprising. It hasn't been all about the team since they were 12.

We all quit at one time or other. I retired and quit my job. I'm sure if I knew more about you, I could find things you have quit. Yelling "quitter" simply makes you feel better about yourself while criticizing others.
Hey. we aren't going to get anywhere with this. You go ahead and criticize personal decisions people make that affect you in no way. No skin off my nose.

See, this is exactly what I mean, right here....
You have no idea what the topic of discussion even is. You have no opinion. And are incapable of recognizing one.
You just cut n paste and create straw men and boogie men that don’t exist to wag your finger at.
It’s remarkable.

Niccolo Machiavelli nailed it hundreds of years ago: “How we live is so different from how we ought to live that he who studies what ought to be done rather than what is done will learn the way to his downfall rather than to his preservation.”

Because addressing what you is is forbidden? I forgot who I was dealing with. I gave my opinion and you mocked it. For some reason you seem to believe thta your opinion matters and nobody elses does. We are all to fall in line with Jefferson or be ridiculed.
