Not even remotely close. Wasn't saying I support the state/govt being able to claim a right to what someone earned.

And you're right, those definitely foster a distrust.

And that leads to more animated/violent confrontations.

Raise your hand if you think that the black communities distrust/animosity for cops can be seen as an extension of being HEAVILY policed by people who

A) do not look like them
B) are not from the community
C) make no attempt at getting to know the people of the neighborhood

and are enforcing unjust law?

I understand their frustrations.

And for the rest of society, well, it's coming to a community near you. As I mentioned, Lowndes County has amped up their deputies, and they are everywhere. People who usually line up to lick boots are now feeling the sting of the revenue generation, and are slowly changing their tune.

It's easy to love the cops and cheer them on blindly when the "criminals" aren't you or anyone you know...

But again, I simply wish the cops would stand with "the people" against unjust law. I'd buy them a fricking Coke and teach them all to sing.

and as soon as the cop "looks like them" he gets accused of selling out to the man or being an Uncle Tom. Sure, cops are the main problem in the black communities you're talking about. Right up there with all the whites going in killing blacks for fun.

There's so much brainwashing from groups such as the NAACP and the SPLC that a lot of people in those communities don't even realize they can think for themselves (and whether it's obvious or not, I'm not referring to all black people). Easier to think someone else is the problem than to look at yourself. Conveniently enough, politicians love it.

Ah.

No, I'm not trying to make the case for NO government here. I am an anarchist, but this argument stands without bringing my philosophical musings into the discussion.

I don't think that police should be generating revenue. Period. Wean that aspect of police work from them.

If you want to make it illegal to speed...fine. Jail the speeder, but disallow fines. THIS would have the effect of officials instructing officers to selectively cull only the most egregious of offenders, and possibly removing speed limits altogether, leaving only reckless driving.

I want to lessen police liability. I am actually FOR the police in this regard. People who "love" the police want to ramp up the number of bad situations in which they must involve themselves.

If they want officer Porky to get home to little Jane so bad, they need to stop fricking demanding that they be the superheros that they most certainly are not (most are fat, dumbass assholes, or roided up, nutless pricks), and can never hope to be.

Let them be respected. Let them serve, and actually protect...

I know you don't care but it's stuff like that which makes it pretty hard to take you serious. I'll let yall get back to the circle jerk. Enjoy.

No argument here...but....

...in this instance, we come upon the "chicken or the egg" question.

Sure, crime is higher in these communities, but why? I think that if you give it an honest look, you'll begin to see a cycle: wash, rinse, repeat. But if it's not genetic, it's external...there is an unmoved mover that began the cycle.

Check out the "Hamsterdam" episodes of "The Wire", which really gets involved in this exercise.

The cops are there because of crime...what crime? What does it all stem from? How can these communities break the cycle? How can these communities come to respect the officers which police them? To trust them?

I don't care. Most of my words are precisely chosen to weed out those who have "knee-jerk" tendencies from the discussion. Those people generally shut down and cannot be reached, anyway. They are now, and forever will be, lukewarm to any and all things.

I'll bet you hate "political correctness", and those who peddle it ans gospel truth, though...

This is what Statism looks like. It's not pretty is it?

Maybe The State should back off and stop sending people to wars and stop harassing people with coercion and violence over petty offenses.

If the common man knew when he was pulled over all that would happen is he'd be asked to slow it down and his mind wasn't broken by war, incidents like this wouldn't happen.

Violence begets violence.

Colorado seems to have a monopoly on good government.

Colorado cop (since fired) James Ashby shot the unarmed Jack Jacquez in the back killing him. Jacquez had been skateboarding to his home and was at his home when the officer killed him. The officer said that he thought Jacquez was a burgler.

The fired cop is now facing second degree murder charges.

Do you give up your right to be considered unarmed when you grab another person's weapon?

Peter Buck why are you taking the word of someone who was clearly shown to be lying? Clear video showed that the dead man didn't have a weapon until the cop dropped it at his side.

Out of curiosity...who determines whether a law is just or unjust? I mean...if I think a law is unjust, does that mean I should just ignore it?

This particular cop is a scumbag, and he is now being charged with murder. What other course of action should be taken? He's getting his just punishment.

Cop bashing is just the cool new thing to do these days. For every 1 dirty jackass who makes the news for doing somethign like this, there are thousands more who go to work, do their job the best they can, and go home to their family afterwards. But those guys don't make the news. In every profession that has ever been invented or that will ever exist in history, there will be some professionals in it that are shady. That's because they're people...and people have brains and motives and do bad things sometimes regardless of their profession.
