Disney Dawgs stay out of here with your YPG, PPG and other statistics that misrepresent our offense and paint a false picture.
Our offense has continually bogged themselves down and sputtered along especially in the last two games. A man is defined by how he responds to adversity and Coley is drowning in it right now.
If he can get the offense to live up to its potential and turn this ship around starting Saturday he may have a shot at returning albeit with something similar to Kirby hiring our own "Joe Brady".
All credit to our Defense, they have played lights out and the pitiful offensive performances have overshadowed them far too much. I still have faith in this team and in Kirby's ability to demand excellence from his players and his staff especially when we are being dismissed by most of the sports media. We will not lose to the lizards in Jacksonville. Let's go get our confidence back boys.
LFG Dawgs.
28-17 DAWGS ON TOP.

As far as I'm concerned his tenure is already defined.

You mean actual facts paint a false picture? That's like saying stats are racist because you don't like what they say

I remember the two games against Auburn in 2017. First game-regular season. Chaney/Smart stuck to our tendency of running between the tackles. Kind of stupid IMO since Auburn had one of the best d-lines in college football. Didn't work. They stopped our running game. Got Fromm continually in third and long. Their d-line pinned their ears back and total chaos ensued.
Second game-SEC Championship. Chaney broke tendency. He did a helluva job attacking the edge. I remember the swing passes to Michel and Swift out of the backfield. He also threw in some toss sweeps. He got Auburn's d-line tired out running sideline to sideline. Fourth quarter Swift broke the big one...game over.
I was no fan of Chaney but he made the changes needed to help win that game.
Coley is in the same situation now. What will he do? I seriously don't know. But I do know he has the more talented team. It is on him to put together a competent game plan and for the team to execute.
If we come out Saturday and Fromm is 5 of 7 passing for 13 yards by the end of the first quarter I will know we are fricked.
Honestly I am on "pins and needles" to see how this game plays out. I will root for Coley until it is time not to.

Not fair. This is the first season defining game of his GA career.
He shouldn't be able to guarantee himself anything with this game but he can eliminate himself for the OC job next season.

There is a whole lot of stupid in dawgnation. Especially when it comes to playcalling

sometimes statistics are telling, sometimes they are misleading. you know that, i know that, we all know that.

The monsoon skewed our current passing stats. They should be better.
2018 2019
Rushing yards per game: 239, 236
Passing yards per game: 226, 234
Points per game: 37.9, 36
Yards per carry: 5.9, 6.1
Yards per pass: 9.0, 8.2
Tell me how this is misleading. Are the 4 int misleading, or the monsoon we played in misleading? I agree we've not had as many explosive plays (2018) but the average per play is pretty similar. What is misleading? It's not like our points are being scored by the D or our rush and pass stats are skewed by a few big runs/passes. I'm asking because I would like to know.

So when they agree with your point they're telling but when they don't match your feelings they are misleading
There are a ton of stats out there that prove our O is pretty good and good enough to win Saturday. Are those telling or misleading?

Because by strictly looking at those stats you would think that our offense is fine and dandy. Nothing to be worried about.
When in fact we didn't even make it onto Kentucky's side of the field until 6 minutes to go in the 3rd qtr and that was only due to UK's punter shanking one. The other TD drive was one play after a turnover in Kentucky's territory in which Swift made a hell of a run. Idc if we played in an actual hurricane, that is pitiful.
We scored 17 points against USCjr. Tell me how that is ok when Tennefrickinsee put up 45. Also don't point to the 4 turnovers as an excuse. WE TURNED THE BALL OVER 4 TIMES! That is a problem in and of itself.
How many times did we score in the second half against Vanderbilt? Must have been their heralded defense that gave us fits.
Against Tennessee we had two phenomenal drives to end the first half(I will give credit to our offense there) beyond that nothing else stood out.
But by all means continue to use statistics to delude yourselves into thinking our offense is a well oiled machine.

Of course 4 turnovers is a good excuse for not scoring points and for losing the game. One is crazy to think otherwise.
The red flag is that we turned the ball over 4 times with a conservative passing attack (none of the passes were beyond 12 yards of the line of scrimmage).
That is failure of attention to detail. That is a failure on the coaching staff. There cannot be any excuses for that. Of course, it is a reminder that these are 18-22 year olds. It is a reminder that kids lose focus. Did they also lose focus on Monday? Thursday? Etc..
The coaches have to fix this because turnovers will kill any team of any talent in any conference game.

As if he’s going to be like “oooh I thought you said KEEP running vanilla predictable consecutive plays my bad”
If he had the creativity before he would have used it. My heart says UGA comes out with some seriously badass play calling but my brain knows better. Might be a long day.

I've been annoyed at our recent lack of closing the deal on offense but...
quote:just reads to me like you don't want anything objective to be injected into the discussion. Yes, stats can be misleading, but they can also provide a bigger picture that's missed from the eye test. It depends on how they are used.

So you want to ignore the facts again? Those 4 TO's prevented us from scoring. Not sure why you want to ignore that.

Did you even watch the game? We got up big and then Kirby put the breaks on. Vandy had nothing to do with it.

A lot of that is on the returners who didn't give us very good field position. And why are we ignoring the weather. You can bury your head in the sand but it played a factor in the game.

It's impossible to know if we would have scored on those drives but I do see your point. The reason I said to ignore in my OP is because everyone uses that stat to sugarcoat the loss rather than expound on us turning the ball over 4 times being an issue itself. While it is true that 4 TOs makes it hard to win it does not excuse the poor performance of the offense itself which led to the TOs.

I did watch the game in fact I was at the game, and it's not like we ran the ball every play in the second half. We still threw the ball and tried to go downfield but we could not move the ball in the second half. That is a fact. Whether Kirby put the brakes on or not is pure conjecture, no-one but Kirby and Coley would know that. And if he did do that then it concerns me more because it shows he has learned nothing in our two losses to Bama.

And why are we ignoring the weather
I'll give you the bad weather on the passing game sure. But we still continued to run the ball up the middle consistently until our first scoring drive (imagine that). And with the exception of the first run of the game in which Swift gained 10+ yards IIRC.

Also my last point before I let this thread die. If our offense is so similar to last year then why is there a national narrative about our vanilla playcalling and our inefficiency to score as well as our OC being on the hotseat? Every major personality (not just Finebaum) has called attention to it in their analysis.
Cole Cubelic
David Pollack
Kirk Herbstreet
Marcus Spears
Greg McElroy
Peter Burns
Gene Chizik
Chip Towers
Seth Emerson
Even UGA beat writers know this to be true as well as every show on 92.9 The GAme so while the stats may be comparative they do not paint an accurate picture of the offense.

We are 2nd in the conference in redzone TD conversion.

I agree. It falls on the coaches. Better to fix this after South carolina than a game without 2nd chances.

Because they are comparing us to Ohio St, LSU, etc.
That is not our game. Our game got us to the National Championship, and a SEC Championship. I'm fine with our system. I'm fine with winning.
There is no inefficiency to score. We are scoring 36 per game and 30 times out of the 31 times we entered the Red zone.

Seth emerson is a beat writer for 10 years. He recognizes that it isnt playcalling. It is lack of focus in execution.
If you break down the plays, you see why they fail. You see what the offense is trying to accomplish.
When the plays work, no one complains about the playcalls and their sequence. No one complains about scoring TDs. No one complains about man ball.
Every season, the offense will be a work in progress. Every season, there will be players leaving for the NFL. The key is getting the upperclassmen to play like upperclassmen. Without that leadership, you will see losses like 2016. Yes. 2016.
