It absolutely pains me but I decided to give my Baseball tickets for Saturday to a friend.
My daughters travel softball team scheduled a tournament since the first 3 got rained out.

I flip flopped a lot. But I only will get to watch my daughter play so many times before she grows up and LSU will be back one day....

We are still attending the sofball games tomorrow and Sunday but we wont be at the baseball game on Saturday.....

I have been looking forward to Saturday for several months. Weather looks great as well.

But Kid first. I enjoy watching her and her team play. Never know what tomorrow holds for all of us so I dont want to miss a moment.

Geaux Dogs and Geaux Tigers. Heres to a great series....

Note : I gave my tickets to my close friend who is a big UGA fan. He is taking his 6 year old son who also loves the Dawgs. So it went to good people.....

Dang, I was looking forward to meeting up for a bit. Certainly understandable though in your situation.

Well to be honest, if my daughter cannot go with me. It kind of lost a little bit of its allure. This is something we do together. She was bummed as well.

Sunday is Dad Daughter day at the Jack for the sofbtall game. So that is kind of cool. Hopefully its a rubber match between LSU and UGA..

I am going to be doing a big shrimp boil during one of the UGA football games this year.
I intend to invite all of you who can make it.
So hopefully we can put some faces with the posts soon...

Never know Maybe LSU will come back and play UGA in a regional or something...

I am bummed though. My daughter and I both were really looking forward to it.
She is the teams catcher so skipping the afternoon games was not an option.

For those of you with kids in travel sports understand the long days of kid sports tournaments. Last week we were in Cartersville. Left Athens at 5:30am and got back at 12:15AM... Long days....

What is a real kick in the shorts. This weeks tournament is in OCONEE COUNTY!! at Oconee Veterans Park. Literally 5 minutes from my house. Which is rare.
So I will be 20 minutes away from where the game is being played.

Oh well.

All you are going to miss is LSU blanking Georgia for three straight games.

Georgia and their joke of a head coach shouldnt even be on the field with LSU.

I wouldnt be so sure. LSU got swept by Texas and just had to hit a walk off homerun vs Nichols State to win 6-5....

my 10 year just made a travel softball team
my 8 year old is going to be playing travel soccer after this season.

-- i'm thinking my weekends are now done for the next 8-10 years.

--which is part of how i'm justifying a 'we are going at any cost' argument to the Notre Dame game this year with my wife.

Yes that is accurate. I used to play Golf on Saturday mornings. My clubs have dust on them.

my first question to the coach was why do 8 year olds need 1200$ in uniforms and bags....

"my first question to the coach was why do 8 year olds need 1200$ in uniforms and bags...."

Ha you are only beginning my friend. All the kids have to have the same helmets, bags, matching practice uniforms, two tournament uniforms etc. I have a catcher so i have to get the big rolling ones.
Then you tack on you and your wife getting Shirts, Sweatshirts, Hats etc
Then of course gas, tailgate stuff and food on weekends.

We are not even on a team here in the Athens areas we play out of Lawrenceville area. So we have a cool hour each way drive several times a week for practice.

I have separate Hitting and Catching lessons tacked on every week to boot.... Plus I have to board 2 really stupid but loving dogs on Saturdays because we are gone for 15 hours and they would destroy the house with craps and pees.

Wait to you start traveling to Tennessee or South Carolina for Nationals.
We are going to Pigeon Forge this year for Nationals in July. Tack on week of Hotel, etc etc... Its a 6 day tournament....

What will REALLY drive you crazy is at many places you have to pay 6 bucks a head to get into a tournament you paid to play in. Gate fees.....

Brace yourself......

Uh, yeah. I'd need a scholarship for the poor. My kids will never touch that hot mess.

I know you love your family but all of that sounds beyond miserable.

This is coming from ignorance because I truly don't know but are there not any good rec leagues or something with solid competition closer to Athens? Are you doing this becuase your daughter really wanted it, or because she's genuinely THAT good and this is a chanace to help her work towards getting a scholarship some day?

No I am not one of those parents under the delusion she will be a D1 player. She has a chance to be a very good High School player. Maybe a small school? Possibly but we have no delusions or desires that is the end result. She believes it saying "I want to play for UGA or LSU on day" but I know the odds are stacked against her big time.

No she loves it, she watches LSU Softball and UGA Softball replays on Youtube. . She is pretty good at it and to be honest its something we do as a family. There are only three of us. We are all foreigners to Georgia so we have no Kin in the area. Its kind of what we do a as a family.
We have other things of course, I try to play golf my wife has her things.

I said it before, before I had a daughter I would mock womens sports, etc.
My perspective completely changed

She may say one day "Ok thats it that was fun, lets try something else" and we will respect that.
I doubt it but its possible.

But no the end goal here isnt a scholarship. The odds are immense.. Its just something we chose to invest in as a family, she is into it. We are into it.

Oh and before someone wonders or chimes in with a comment. No she is not what you are thinking ;-) and if she was there is nothing wrong with that.
To be frank is quite common in the softball world.

But how can I say no to this

You are alright in my book, good man!

My HS girl friend went on to play for Belmont in the early nineties and I love the sport.

Wish her the best.

LSUHobNailBoot, travel ball is definitely an expensive hobby/lifestyle. My niece plays 14U travel ball and is also based out of Georgia. She pitches and plays 1st for her team. I remember when my niece started playing 8 or 10U. I never really thought she would have the chance to play in college, but I was shocked at how much better she has gotten over the years! When you start seeing college coaches watch it is a really proud moment. With the right coaching and organization backing her, you would be surprised what these coaches can do. I don’t think a lot of people really understand the weight of travel ball compared to rec or school ball. Colleges may look at school ball, but coaches come out in full force to watch these travel ball tournaments/showcases. My niece started out on a no name team and kept working her way up. If your daughter works hard and has the ability, all you can do is push her! Softball is such a fun sport to watch. It’s a much faster game and some of the girls are amazing athletes!
