Can we all admit that Central Campus is ugly?

Tate and the bookstore are honestly super ugly. The MLC isn’t that much better. As are the Physics, Geography, and Chem buildings. Stat and Math too, Bolton is ugly.
I don’t know what they were thinking when they designed Tate. It’s like a mix of classic and modern architecture and it just looks stupid. Massive columns mixed with a clear roof lol
If it weren’t for central campus I’d say we easily have the nicest campus in the SEC. The North Campus courtyard is elite. As well as all the buildings along Agriculture Drive and the area around the SLC/Creamery in South campus

Do people disagree on this, new to me. Everything built from the 1930s to 1980s sucked.

i’ve never seen anyone really comment on central campus much regardless. Today’s first day of classes and I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t the only one.

UGA had far less resources than they do today. Should start replacing those buildings.

they’ve just been renovating the interior everywhere. It’s just the exterior that’s the problem. Save the geography building. I don’t think that building has changed since the 70s

Uga had no where near the resources of today. But honestly, you could still learn in them.

We should spend $600 million to rebuild the science buildings so we show up higher on SDS prettiest campus clickbait lists (you won't believe #4!!!)

Because we're old. There was no "central campus" for a lot of us. It was like two or three buildings when I was there. I've never even heard someone say "central campus" before. To me, that means the stadium.

Calm down. Nothing wrong with wanting to improve the campus a bit. And we’ve already built the SLC, the nicest building on campus

If this type of BS is important to schools, then no wonder the cost of higher education has gotten out of hand.

Does new Terry count as Central Campus? Cause that's sexy right there.
But I do agree that Tate and most of the buildings in Central are ugly as shite.

What is central campus? UGA has grown immensely since I went there. The Coliseum was pretty much the far side of campus.
Note, there once were no parking decks and the the end zone by the Tate center was essentially open

I assume everything South of Baldwin street leading into Sanford and then right around Myers Quad/Snelling for the other boundary. Pretty much just Grady, the MLC, Tate, Bolton, and Ag Hill.
Edit: I only ever used North and South Campus, so central campus is a newer term for me and I was last there in '18.

Ugly, yes.
BUT the bookstore provides nostalgia and memories from my time as a child on game day to my time as a student to taking my own kids there on game day. I don’t want that to go away. The rest of the buildings can be replaced but not the bookstore IMO. I’m probably in the minority.

There was a time when the Health Center was on North Campus and there was a lady named Fran. who you had to see occasionally if you were having fun. The gym was by the quad and like 100 years old. The area where those are now was cow fields.

I, for one, never had unprotected sex with a slut in the alley behind roadhouse. I recall no such incident. In fact, if someone were to accuse me of it, I would deny it because it would be a lie.
I remember the student judiciary was on North Campus near the health clinic, where you get prosecuted by your peers, and judged by them, and another non-student beaver looking guy who looked exactly like the baseball card guy in Better Call Saul. Exactly. And this non-student of the "student" judiciary is very very angry about a parking ticket, that was paid, but also had an allegedly explicit message sent in with the fine, in writing, allegedly, causing Beaver Man to explain that records are flagged, frozen, can't register, etc, until a typed apology to the UGA parking services is drafted, approved, and delivered to the UGA parking services department.
Additionally, I never drove a maroon 86 Chevy Celebrity through the gravel commuter lots and most certainly never brandished a machete to any dumb cvnts who don't know the commuter lot rules.

Old Tate and the bookstore needs an exterior face lift (at least just fix the old red roof). Tate plaza is well past it’s prime and needs to be torn up and redone but it’s so heavily foot trafficked year round that it’s hard to imagine they ever could/would. MLC, Bolton, Chem, etc are all fine. They were supposed to build a second structure on top of the exposed part of Tate deck but I’ve heard it mentioned that they cheaper out and didn’t build the structural supports necessary to do so. To whatever end you hate open parking lots, that part sucks.
Psych is the ugliest building on campus and combined with the CTL auditoriums it’s the ugliest single structure but fat chance that every gets cleaned up. Grady has done about as well as it can to at least look better by comparison with its conjoined twin

Yah, central campus isn't that great other than Myers courtyard. It is crazy how much more resources the University has now. I was there from 90-94. We had Stegman gym where the Tate parking deck is now. My high school guy was nicer. The business school's computer lab was an absolute joke. Right after I left they built the Ramsey center.
Posted on 8/17/22 at 9:48 pm to agentoranj1990
Wasn't the Ramsey center originally called the Space Center and built in early 90s?
Posted on 8/17/22 at 9:54 pm to Peter Buck
That's correct. Space became Ramsey in 96. It caused quite the stir.
